I am forever amazed by the inge- nuity of my readers. Take print- er ink cartridges for home computers. They can be real- ly expensive. Using up every last smidgen of ink or toner is the reason we take them out and shake them to dislodge every bit. But heat that puppy up to get the job done? I'd never thought of it until I heard from today's first tip- ster. I can't guarantee this will work for your particular situation, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it does. PRINT CARTRIDGE RESCUE. I bought an ink cartridge for my computer, and it must have been old because after about a month it would not print. The store would not take it in return, so I decided to partially dip the cartridge itself in hot water, hop- ing that the heat would thin the ink. It worked! I have done this several times with the same cartridge, and it is still working. -- Doris, email. MELT AWAY. I placed several bags of hamburger and hotdog buns right on top of my hot toaster oven. Much to my distress, the packaging design and information melted right into the top of the oven. What a mess! I decided I couldn't make it any worse, so I turned the oven on for a minute or two, grabbed my Goo Police reports The following informa- tion is compiled from Red Bluff Police Department, Tehama County Sheriff’s Department, Corning Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Arrests • Luke Nathan Coleman, 36, of Corning was booked Monday at the Tehama County Jail on charges related to four different open cases. Charges includ- ed illegal possession of explosives, transportation of a controlled substance, grand theft of money, labor or property worth more than $400, being a book dealer with items of undetermined ownership for sale and two counts of receiving stolen property worth less than $400. No bail was set. Collision • A hit and run was reported just before 10 a.m. Monday outside the More For Less station, 1715 Wal- nut St., involving a tan 1989 Mazda. Violence • More than one emer- gency call reported a man hitting a woman at 11:45 a.m. near Walnut Street and Scottsdale Way. Several witnesses tried to intervene. Camron Michael Crimson, 19, of Red Bluff was arrest- ed nearby on Dumosa Avenue on misdemeanor charges of battery. Bail was set at $5,000. • A person reported being concerned about someone they knew who had been pulled into a room and locked inside at Sports- man Lodge, 768 Antelope Blvd. Officers arrested Brandon Lyle Lloyd Spharler, 27, of Red Bluff at the scene on out-of-the-area warrants and a supplemen- tal warrant to a Red Bluff case. Spharler’s charges include battery on a spouse, ex-spouse or date, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent and two counts of failure to appear on misde- meanor charges. Bail was set at $11,000. • CalFire enlisted the help of sheriff’s deputies Monday on a medical call when it was known that two people had been fighting inside a residence at 5:52 p.m. in the 17500 block of Stagecoach Road near Corning. The two suspects reportedly pepper-sprayed each other. One of the men involved had already been approached by deputies ear- lier in the day. Someone at the G&K Country Store, 17585 Rancho Tehama Road, reported a man trying to throw a rock at customers and panhandling at 10:51 a.m. The man had left before deputies arrived, but deputies found him and told him not to return to the store. Animals • An 89-year-old man Gone (look for this in the paint aisle in a home center like Home Depot or Lowe's) and a paper towel. I got almost all of the gunk off the surface. I removed what remained with Bar Keepers Friend (in most supermarkets with household cleansers). My oven hasn't looked this good for years, and the surface doesn't have a scratch on it. -- Kay, Min- nesota DRYER SHEET SCRUB. I have a corner shower with clear glass side panels and a clear glass door. The squeegee doesn't work well getting rid of the soap scum, so I tried a new dryer sheet to wipe down the glass. It came out sparkling clean. Easy, too. -- Kaye, Florida DISHWASHER DETERGENT STORAGE. I buy automatic dish- washer detergent in large, heavy boxes. I fill up a 2-quart drink pitch- er and store it in a cabinet next to the dishwasher. Instead of bringing the container to the dishwasher, I use a long-handled scoop to fill the dish- reported Monday that someone had cut the tail off of one of his horses in the 19200 block of Pine Park Road in Cottonwood. Theft • A theft was reported from the Sub Culture shop, 335 Walnut St., Monday. • A Wii console was reported stolen from a resi- dence in the 15900 block of Apache Trail in the Rancho Tehama area. The game system was taken sometime Monday. Burglary • A residential break-in was reported Monday in the 1600 block of El Cerrito Drive. DUI • No one was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 9:25 washer's detergent cup. It is easy and keeps the powder dry. -- Karen, Maryland Mary Hunt Everyday Cheapskate AMAZON MOM. I shop for non- perishables items like chips, protein bars and tea at www.Ama- zon.com, using the compa- ny's "Amazon Mom" ser- vice. I get up to 30 percent off my orders. For example, I buy Honey Graham Cliff Z bars on Amazon Mom for half the price I would pay locally. As an Amazon Mom member, I can earn Amazon Prime benefits when I purchase baby items, which includes two-day free shipping when I purchase baby items. So far, I have "prime" until July. This ser- vice is aimed at helping par- ents and caregivers from the prenatal days through the toddler years. -- Rachel, Washington FACE WIPES. I used Pond's facial cleansing wipes, but recently I bought a package of 80 baby wipes at the dollar store. They are alcohol free, hypoallergenic and contain vita- min E and aloe. The wipes are very gentle on my face, and I'm saving a ton of money. -- Linda, email p.m. Monday on north- bound Interstate 5, north of Flores Avenue. Thomas Sheridan, 61, of Albuquerque, N.M. and Rickie Dimmick, 56, of Mooresville, N.C. were both going north with Sheri- dan in the fast lane and Dimmick in the slow lane. Due to his level of intox- ication, Sheridan drifted into the slow lane as Dim- mick began to pass him, sideswiping Dimmick’s vehicle, causing minor damage to Dimmick’s pick- up and moderate to Sheri- dan’s. Sheridan was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked into Tehama County Jail. Crash •A Red Bluff woman was taken by private party to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital with major injuries fol- lowing a crash at 9:25 a.m. Monday on Corn- ing Road. Brooke Williamson, 25, was driving east on Corning Road, west of Butte Mountain Road, on a wet roadway when she entered a right hand curve at an unsafe speed for weather conditions. Williamson failed to negotiate the curve, drifting into the opposite lane and swerved back to the right, overcorrect- ing, which caused her 1993 Honda Civic to spin. The Honda slid off the south road edge, hit a wooden fence and rolled onto its left side, causing major damage. 527-6727 243-2303 365-1429 Me
