CHAMBER UPDATE BusinessinessNews County a Magnet for Job Growth Despite Flagging National Economy Cumberland County now ranks fifth in the state for adding new jobs, according to the latest State Workforce Report*. With the majority of jobs added to the much larger metropolitan areas of the Triangle and Charlotte over the last five years, Cumberland County’s surprisingly strong showing bodes well for residents and those con- sidering relocating to the area. According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Fay- BUSINESS L eadership Fayetteville Youth Academy is a nine-month program directed by the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Cumber- Spotlight Leadership Fayetteville Youth Academy coming soon! REQUIREMENTS INESS land County School System. The Chamber recognizes that our area’s youth hold the key to our future, and the program has been structured to encourage our area’s youth to become leaders in our community. Each session will expose students to all aspects of the Fayetteville community. Economic Development, Health and Med- icine, Government and Media are among the topics the program will explore. Students will benefit from the expertise of Fayette- ville’s finest business and educational leaders through interactive discussions and hands on activities. HOW ARE PARTICIPANTS SELECTED? Applications are sent to high school principals and guidance coun- selors. Students must complete the application and return it to the Chamber. Depending upon the number of applications we receive, students may be required to participate in an admissions interview. * High School Junior * Unweighted G.P.A. 3.0 or higher (must be maintained throughout Leadership Fayetteville Youth Academy) * Positive attitude with a willingness to learn * Effective communication skills * Transportation to and from designated meeting place for each Leadership Fayetteville Youth Academy Session.
