During the transition to our new system, customers may also experience delays when calling to speak with a PWC representative or visiting our Customer Service Center. Please remember, we experience our highest volumes on Mondays, Fridays and at the first of the month. You may consider calling later in the day as our call center is open until 8 pm Monday through Friday. PWC appreciates your understanding for any temporary inconveniences as we enhance our customer service with new technology. Our (hard) hats go off to PWC Lineman, Duane Stalnaker, who recently won first place overall at the 53rd Annual North Carolina Association of Municipal Electric Systems (NCAMES) Lineman's Rodeo. The rodeo is a chance for linemen from around the state to showcase their craft while performing simulated rescues, installations and other tasks - all on a 40-foot utility pole! Judges score contestants on safety procedures, work practices, equipment handling and time. Stalnaker posted perfect 100% scores in every category! In addition, PWC Lineman Henry Richardson placed first in one of his Apprentice events. Congratulations to the entire PWC Rodeo Team that competed in the rodeo and thanks for representing Fayetteville PWC well! Summer fun is right around the corner, but with it comes the potential for devastating hurricanes. PWC prepares year-round for severe weather and has a pro-active plan for operations in the event of a storm or emergency situation. Our crews are always ready to swing into action as soon as it's safe, and we're prepared to work around the clock to restore your services. We also encourage you to be prepared. Here are some things to keep in mind: •Keep disaster supplies on hand including water, non-perishable food, and flashlight batteries. •Develop an emergency plan for your family. Things to consider include where to meet if you get separated, where to find emergency supplies, and what to do if someone in your home relies on electrically powered life support. •Become familiar with safety tips such as never touch a downed power line and follow the guidelines if you use generators. You'll find emergency preparation information on our website, and watch for Hurricane Watch 2014 published by the Fayetteville Observer. •Be sure PWC has your current phone number so our emergency system can identify you if you call. Visit our website to update your contact information. •To report a power outage or an emergency (such as a tree limb on a power line or water main break), call 1-877-OUR-PWC1. •Stay connected - you can keep up with all the latest news, advisories and official information by following us on Facebook and Twitter. Generator Safety •Always read & follow the manufacturer's operating instructions before running your generator. •Never use a generator inside your home, garage, crawl space, or other enclosed areas. •Use a battery-powered carbon monoxide detector in the area you're running a generator. •Never operate the generator near combustible materials. •Never operate your generator under wet conditions. •Turn your generator off & let it cool before refueling. •Use only the type of fuel recommended in the generator instructions.
