There is something about hearing the right lyric at the right time, delivered with music that perfectly complements the message. As a programmer at a Christian radio station, I have heard countless stories and have had experiences myself attesting to the power of a single song. Someone shared such a story with me recently. She and her husband had an argument that seemed to be that proverbial straw. Unable to find resolution, the couple proceeded to spend the night apart with separation as the likely next step. Alone with only her thoughts to keep her company, this wife decided to turn on the radio. And that's when it happened! The perfect song came on at just the right time like it was meant just for her. The wonderful thing is, it was meant just for her. She had most likely heard the song,"Restore" by Chris August, before. This time though, she didn't just hear it, she absorbed it. As she listened to each line, hope steadily began to take the place of despair. By the time the song ended, her heart was nearly beating out of her chest. She couldn't wait to share the song with her husband…so she didn't wait. She insisted that he listen to the song, hoping and believing it would have a similar impact on him. And it did. By the next day they chose to start over with the realization that, like the chorus says, "God is a God who knows how to heal so just give it up to the Lord, and He will restore." No, the message was not new, but it certainly was right on time. Whether it's about being a better spouse, a more intentional parent or letting a very capable God lead the way for us, the message in a song can have a huge impact on our lives if we let it. Stories like this one always encourage me, and now this one is encouraging you. So keep listening to your favorite songs; I mean really listen. When that 'just right' song comes on at just the right time, take it in. Let its message seep deep down inside. Then don't keep the power of the song to yourself. Share your story with the singer, the songwriter, the radio station and with anyone else who needs to be encouraged. Chris August's Restore by STEVE TURLEY STEVE TURLEY, Christian 107.3 COMMENTS?
