6A Daily News – Friday, May 13, 2011 Education in Tehama County KEEP ON LEARNING Corning Elementary Carnival The Coming Elementary Educational Foundation (CEEF) announces the second annual District Carnival, to be held 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 20 at the West Street School campus. “There will be food, game booths, contests, and fun for all family members,” said CEEF President Helen Pitkin. This year there will be the addition of a rummage sale. A 42-inch flat screen television, as well as three new bicycles will be raffled off. Tickets can be purchased at all school offices as well as the district office. They will also be for sale at each school’s Open House Night. Television raffle tickets are $5 each and the bicycles tickets are $1 each. The winning tickets will be selected at the end of the Carnival at 7:30 p.m. You need not be present to win. Prizes are on display at the CUESD District Office, 1590 South St., in Corning. CEEF was founded in 2009 to assist in benefiting the students of the Corning Union Elementary School District through fundraising events. It has recently donated toward the Holistic Playground plan at West Street School, a project that will be completed this summer. For further details, contact the CUESD District Office at 824- 7700. Courtesy Photo To celebrate Character Counts Day SERRF students at Vista Middle School held a Character Counts themed art show. Visitors were greeted at the door with a large banner advertising the enrichment club “Bowling with Character!” Classroom displays included student-designed comics featuring characters such as “Respectful Robert and Fair Fred.” Displays also featured pictures created by scratch art and other media that depicted citizenship, caring, responsibility, and trustworthiness. The event was visited by family members and students of Red Bluff High School’s Assets after school program. Students celebrate Bowling with Character Character Counts Family Fitness Night April 29 Lassen View SERRF students and their families participated in Character Counts Family Fitness Night. Students who showed exemplary character throughout the school year were awarded Character Counts Stu- dent Star Awards. Melody Yeager, a SERRF parent and volunteer, was awarded the Character Counts Star Family Award. Yeager has shared her expertise in anthropology as a Chico State and Butte College instructor with the students. Shasta College Student Kimberlee Mountain named as Hood Scholar Kimberlee Mountain, a 2008 Shasta College graduate, has been named the Hood Scholar Recipient for the Department of Education at San Francisco State University from which she is graduating this May.
