ByStephenHawkins TheAssociatedPress ARLINGTON, TexAS Derek Norris drove in three runs with a pair of dou- bles, Scott Kazmir outpitched Mar- tin Perez and the Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers 9-3 on Tues- day night. The A's went ahead to stay on Nor- ris' two-run double in the first off Perez (4-1), who had pitched 26 consec- utive scoreless innings over his previ- ous three starts. The left-hander had thrown three- hit shutouts his last two games, includ- ing at Oakland six days earlier. Kazmir (4-0) tied for the AL lead in wins. He needed 95 pitches to get through five innings, but left with a 9-3 lead. The lefty struck out four and walked one. When Norris added an RBI dou - ble to make it 4-0 in the third, the A's already had six hits off Perez, who started the night with an AL-best 1.42 ERA. The eight runs allowed by Perez were two more than his combined to - tal his first five starts, and his ERA more than doubled to 2.95. He struck out three and walked three in 4 2/3 in- nings. Oakland, swept in three games at home by the Rangers last week, has won the first two games in this series that started with the teams tied atop the AL West. At 17-10, the A's have the best record in the American League. Texas (15-12) has its first three-game losing streak this season. A's right-hander Sonny Gray, who lost in the matchup against Perez last week, reached four wins by throwing a three-hit shutout in the series opener. Gray beat Rangers ace Yu Darvish, who with 3 1/3 innings had the short - est start in three seasons since com- ing from Japan. In a matchup of league leaders, Foothill's bats prevailed 11-7 in the first game of a dou - bleheader, in which both coaches seemed re- luctant to go to their bullpen with another game looming. The Cougars broke open a tied 5-5 game in the top of the sixth inning when they loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a hit bats - man with nobody out. With the wind blowing out all game, Luke Kelly ripped a double to deep center field that cleared the bases. Chase Larsen followed with a double that didn't need the wind's power to score Kelly and Foothill in the blink of an eye had a 9-5 lead. That was finally it for Red Bluff starter Walker Dodero. Foothill would add another run off of an Aziel Topete sacrifice fly before the inning was done. Red Bluff got two back in the bottom of the inning off of a Sam Hendricks double to make it 11-7. The Spartans loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring the tying run to the plate, but couldn't get the ball out of the infield off of Larsen, who had come on in relief. Red Bluff opened up the scoring in the sec - ond inning when Will Macdonald doubled home Ryan Gamboa. Foothill grabbed the lead in the fourth in- ning with two runs centered around a Jor- dan Taylor triple. The Spartans came right back with two of their own in the bottom half of the in- ning. Dodero and Gamboa had back-to-back-sin- gles and moved over on an Eric Schreter sac- rifice bunt. Carson Ellis singled in one run and a Foot- hill outfield error led to a second. Chase Root knocked in a run on an RBI double for a 4-2 Red Bluff lead. Foothill took advantage of some poor Red Bluff defense in the fifth inning to score three runs. A walk, sacrifice bunt, infield error and a passed ball led to the first run. A walk and a throwing error led to a sec - ond run and Derrick Tadlock singled in a third for a 5-4 Foothill lead. Schreter hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Dodero to tie the game in the bottom half of the fifth inning. But the Cougars grabbed momentum for good in the sixth as well as the first game of the series. Foothill improved to 5-1 in the Sac River League and 13-8 overall. Red Bluff dropped to 6-1 in league play and 19-5 overall.
