Christina “Voice Pop Star” Walker by STEPHANIE CRIDER UCW: Give us a brief his- tory lesson about yourself as an artist. When and where did you get started? VPS: I am an established Indie Pop singer/songwriter/musi- cian originally from California, re- siding in Fayetteville, N.C. I began singing at a very young age and have been professionally recording and writing for the last six years. I recently decided to go main- stream. I recently recorded at Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood, California. I was given the opportunity to work with renowned audio engineer Erik Reichers, known for engi- neering the 2009 Motion Picture Soundtrack Fame, as well as engineering for the likes of Taylor Hicks, Trey Songz, Natasha Beddingfield, Eric Benet and many more of the music industry’s leading artists. I have written for and contributed songs to Champion Records located in Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, I collaborated with producers worked with Brandy, Ice Cube and Lil’ Wayne, just to name a few. In July 2010, I was rated one of the Top 25 artists in the Andre Harrell’s Superstar Soul Search for the North Carolina/South Carolina and Southeastern United States area. UCW: How did you get your stage name? VPS: For the past four years, I originally went by the name “Voice” but soon after using the name as well as researching it I believed it was unique in a way, yet was lack- ing something which truly made it stand out, which is when I added the “Pop Star.” Voice Pop Star, Now that’s catchy. UCW: How would you define your music? VPS: My music is best described as Pop music with a hint of Soul. UCW: Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music? VPS: My musical influences are Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Madonna, Beyonce and Rihanna. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? VPS: I write all my music. The inspiration comes from experiences and just simply from within. It’s just like a feeling that I get when I hear a beat that just has that “it” factor that makes me naturally feel, without any force like “this is it” and the words just come. UCW: If you only had two words to describe you as an artist what would they be? VPS: Pop Star; that’s who I am and what I represent. UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future? VPS: I plan to take my music to the next level. I want to master the piano and guitar to become a more versatile singer/songwriter. I also plan to get some radio play starting in California and New York, and eventually take my music to a mainstream as well as international level. UCW: Where do you see yourself as an artist five years, 10 years from now? VPS: I see myself happy and successful, whether I am a Top 40 Artist, or whether I am doing tours in smaller cities and venues. Whatever I am doing, as long as I have the opportunity to share my passion and love for music, I will be happy. UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you in the near future? VPS: April 30 – May 1, Fayetteville Dogwood Festival. May 7, Cinco De Mayo Opening Ceremony/Event, May 13, 2010 (7 p.m. and 9 p.m.), Fort Bragg Spring Fair, June — August,International/ State Side Tour.
