The ninth-seeded Cardinals (24-5), a group that prefers holding the ball slowing games down games, were forced into a running by the eighth-seeded Bulldogs (28-4). After the first quarter, dur - ing which Corning star Michael Shoemaker foreshadowed a huge night by scoring six points and tallying two blocks, the squads were tied at 16 apiece. Encina Prep, which was com - fortable from the 3-point line all night, then jumped on Corn- ing in the second period, enjoy- ing 3s from Vadim Golovey and Nate Jefferson. The Bulldogs would build a 35-25 lead with about 35 seconds left in the first half, and started the third quar - ter up 35-27. The Bulldogs were on pace for 70 points.
