F CUSOn Named Nation’s Best Trainer Donald Pike of the Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) has been named the 2010 National Training Professional of the Year by the National Transit Institute. Pike serves the City’s Transit Department as Safety & Training Coordinator. The Training Professional of the Year award is bestowed to a transit professional in order to recognize the exceptional contribution and sustained impact of a transit training professional on his or her organization and the industry. Selection is made from nominations submitted from across the country. Pike was nominated by Tony Means, FAST Superintendent of Operations. “Receiving this prestigious award is both humbling and exciting and it would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of the entire FAST team,” Pike said. “I give praise to God for my training abilities, including a never-ending thirst for knowledge and my relational leadership style, which has allowed me to teach others in a more effective training professionals from all over the country who share my passion for developing others. It is for this very reason that I am truly honored and grateful to be selected as the 2010 Training Professional of the Year.” Pike has been a trainer for over 15 years, having worked in management for Quarles Petroleum in northern Virginia and for UPS in North Carolina. continued next page City Looks at Future The City of Fayetteville is looking at future possibilities through tax foreclosure. The City was the only bidder during the auction at the Cumberland County Courthouse. The property was abandoned in 1999 by Textured Fibres Inc. and Fayette Finishing Corp., has been in bankruptcy since 2000. The City paid approximately $450,000 in overdue City, County and stormwater taxes and interest for the property, and the County returned the City’s taxes and stormwater fees back to the municipality. The County also granted back the County taxes the City had paid. The City’s primary hope for the approximately 96-acre property on Hoffer Drive near the Cape Fear River is expanding the Cape Fear River Trail.
