Between 2009 and 2010, the number of animals sent to rescues from the Animal Services shelter increased by 73 percent, and the adoption rate increased by 60 percent. “We have seen a tremendous increase in our rescue and adoption T rates,” said Animal Services Director Dr. John Lauby, who assumed control of the department just seven months ago. “Our goal is to place all of our adoptable pets with families as quickly as possible and reduce the amount of time they are kept in our county shelter. Fortunately, this increase in adoptions and rescues has also led to a decrease in the number of animals needing to be euthanized.” At the Library… Everyone is invited to hear The Piedmont Rhythm Aces lay down some down-home string/washboard band blues during 4th Friday (Friday, Jan. 28) in the Pate Room of Headquarters Library. The music starts at 7 p.m. Bordeaux Branch Reopens New features at the Bordeaux Branch Library include an expanded computer lab, a refreshed children’s area in the front of the library, new carpeting and furniture and the addition of radio frequency identification technology that allows customers to check out their own materials. Community Meetings The Cumberland County Planning Staff, along with the North Central Citizens Planning Committee, will present the Proposed Detailed Land Use Plan for the North Central Area at a meeting on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at Parkers Grove United Methodist Church, 4487 Linden Road, Linden. The Cumberland County Community Development Department is holding public meetings in February to help residents with home buying assistance, low-interest loans, and housing rehabilitation programs.
