Mojo Mac — Feeling the Groove by STEPHANIE CRIDER As space allows, Up & Coming Weekly enjoys hearing from local bands and sharing their stories with our readers. Recently we had a chance to hear from Mojo Mac. UCW: Who are your band members and what instruments do they play? MM: Kent Prevatte handles vocals and guitar. Danny Bryan is our lead guitar, David Poole’s on bass guitar and Jamie Wellington plays the drums. UCW: Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started? MM: In Lumberton, N.C. Danny and Jamie had played together in other bands for years. They go way back. David and Danny met via the Internet in November of 2009. Danny and Jamie and David hooked up for a few sessons and felt a groove coming on. Kent joined us a few weeks later and the magic was on. All members have had plenty of stage experience. We are all mature (late 40’s, mid 50’s) and family oriented. But don’t let the grays and face lines fool ya. Mojo Mac rocks! UCW: How did the band get its name? MM: Mojo Mac was the name of Danny and Jamie’s old band. And the name was on the band wagon anyway. We and our families felt the immedi- ate Mojo and decide to keep the name. We’d like to thank Chrissy at Froggy Bottoms for our logo design. UCW: How would you define your music? MM: Classic rock with a funk/blues twist. UCW: Who are your favorite bands/influences on your music? MM: The Stones, Van Morrison, Albert King, ZZTop and The BeeGees. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? MM: Yes, we have a few originals and currently focusing on more. Real life experiences inspire us. UCW: If you only had two words to describe your band what would they be? MM: Good-time party- band ( is two hyphenated words ok? ) UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? MM: We’d like to play out a few times a month. We love making and playing music. We’re not in it for the money. Just enough for gas and music gear! We’re working on our first cd — Interstate Blowout. release date set for spring 2011 UCW: Where do you see the band five years, 10 years from now? MM: We’d like to continue playing benefits, bars and partys and maybe buy some new equipment. UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you in the near future? MM: Froggy Bottoms, Marianis, Blackies, VFW and Last Resort. We love biker friendly benefits and pig pickin’s. 18 UCW DECEMBER 8-14, 2010 STEPHANIE CRIDER, Staff Writer COMMENTS? 484-6200 ext. 222 or Stephanie@upandcomingweekly. com CONNECTION Concert BIG APPLE 5900 Yadkin Rd. • (910) 868-5559 bigapplefay.com Thurs.
