That changed in 2009 when a new state law passed allowing Registers of Deeds to redact Social Security and driver’s license numbers from their Internet sites. Cumberland County began this process last year and with the assistance completed and is in place. The process involved scanning all documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Abused Puppy Up for Adoption A burned puppy taken into protective custody by animal cruelty investigators in July is now eligible for adoption from Animal Services. Red, a pit bull, was nine weeks old when he suffered burns, singe marks, blisters and gashes along his left hip and leg. Animal Services has been given permission to allow Red to be adopted, with the restriction that he may need to be brought in as evidence in the felony cruelty court case against the person charged in the case, said Animal Services Director Dr. John Lauby. The fee to adopt Red is $58, which covers the cost of neutering, rabies vaccination, micro-chipping and the county license fee.
