The Cubs, a Division II squad, has scored a combined 10 points in their losses against Shasta and Orland. The Spartans last year put up 63 points against Anderson in a road game. Red Bluff was lifted by an inspired night from former running back Tucker Gulliford, who scored four touchdowns. The Spartans on Friday received strong performances from Christian Shaffer (2 touchdowns), Jared Poore (2 TDs) and starting quarterback and safety Greg DuFour (8-of-16 passing, 73 yards, 2 TDs). Daily News file photo Oroville Tigers vs Corning Cardinals When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Corning High School Records: Oroville (0-1) Corning (1-0) Last Meeting: Corning 27, Oroville 7 The Corning Cardinals staged a ground assault in their season opener against the Las Plumas Thunderbirds Friday. The Cards rushed for six touchdowns, all from different players. Defensively, Corning was solid in not giving up big plays for big gains. Corning High's senior quarterback Chayce Maday, who rushed for a touchdown of his own, threw just four times. Oroville, coming off a big home loss to Red Bluff, will have their offensive problems compounded by trying to get on track on the road. The Tigers should know what to expect from the Cards, the hard part will be actually stopping Corning's disciplined running game.
