Wednesday, August 25, 2010 – Daily News – 5B COURT ROUND-UP The following defendants were sentenced in Tehama County Superior Court, according to the Tehama County Dis- trict Attorney’s Office: —————— Recent State Prison Commitments: • Phillip Joseph Guthmiller was sentenced to seven years in state prison for escape from custody. Guthmiller was in the custody of the California Depart- ment of Corrections serving a five year sentence when he escaped with the help of another individual who came to visit him. Guthmiller was eventually located several days later and taken back into custody. • Jose Arredondo was sentenced to two years, eight months in state prison for evading an officer, willful disregard, pos- session for sale of a controlled substance, driving while hav- ing a 0.08 percent or higher blood alcohol. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Arredondo when Arredondo sped away to speeds of over 105 miles per hour. A search of the vehicle revealed a digital scale and several bags of methamphetamine. • Jacob Martin Macias was sentenced to two years in state prison for receiving stolen property, possession of a con- trolled substance. Macias was originally granted formal probation on both cases. He violated his probation when he failed to complete his drug and alcohol program and failed to make payments towards his fines and fees. • Paula Sue Dias was sentenced to two years in state prison for petty theft with a prior. Dias enters a local convenience store, grabs a hat and a pair of sunglasses and hid them under her shirt. Dias then proceeds to the register to pay for a pack of cigarettes where she was confronted by the store clerk about the items under her shirt. • Anna Marie Griffin was sentenced to two years in state prison for theft from elder or dependent adult. Griffin was originally granted formal probation. She vio- lated her probation when she failed to keep her probation officer informed of her current contact information. Recent County Jail Commitments: • Anthony Lynn Burrill was sentenced to 250 days in Tehama County Jail for possession for sale of a controlled substance, special allegation-offense while on bail or O.R. Burrill was originally granted formal probation. He violat- ed his probation when he tested positive for methampheta- mine. • Beth Alison Greenhill was sentenced to 90 days in Tehama County Jail for sale of a controlled substance. Greenhill was originally granted formal probation. She violated her probation when she tested positive for oxycontin and methadone. • Samuel Clinton Hanford was sentenced to 30 days in Tehama County Jail for unlawful firearm activity. Hanford was originally granted formal probation. He vio- lated his probation when he failed to keep in contact with probation and keep them informed of his whereabouts. Recent Proposition 36 Commitments: Note: All cases wherein a defendant is sentenced per the terms of Proposition 36 are not at the request of the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office. Per the requirements of Proposition 36, a defendant who possesses drugs cannot be sentenced to confinement time in jail or prison. Instead, the court must place defendant on probation and require drug treatment alone. Per the requirements of Proposition 36, only upon a third drug related probation violation may the court impose confinement time. In the event the defendant violates a non-drug related term of probation the court may then elect to sentence defendant to jail or prison. The Tehama County District Attorney’s Office contends that each criminal case is unique and that in certain, specific, cases a defendant should be sentenced to a combination of drug treatment and jail time. We further contend that in other specific cases where a defendant has an extensive criminal record and/or a history of non-compliance with either previ- ous grants of probation or previous grants of drug treatment, a state prison sentence should properly be imposed. • Weeda Sue Clare was sentenced to Prop. 36 probation for transportation of a controlled substance. An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Clare. A search of the vehicle revealed a small bag of mari- juana and 0.7 grams of methamphetamine. Recent Filings: • Eileen Jean Lampron will appear in court for a plea entry at 8 a.m. on Sept. 8 in Department three. She is facing the charge of embezzlement of public funds. Lampron was working as an account technician for the City of Red Bluff. The city had an annual audit performed which indicated some discrepancies on behalf of Lampron. An investigation into the incident revealed that during the period of July 2006 and July 2009 the defendant embezzled approximately $18,000 from the city.
