Page 2 E.G. Herl '90 knows that the Kansas Beta brotherhood runs deeper than undergraduate SigEp experiences. From AVC involvement to longstanding friendships, he is grateful for the impact Sigma Phi Epsilon has had on his life. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT "My sister was a G-Phi at K-State, and there were some guys from my small hometown of Oakley who were SigEps," E.G. said. While he had no initial intention to pursue Greek life, E.G. enjoyed the recruitment process and began developing strong connections with fellow members. E.G. fondly remembers Homecoming weeks at K-State, and he appreciated the chance to organize social events for Kansas Beta as social chairman. He also helped the Chapter grow as recruitment chairman before serving as president of the house, developing leadership skills that would later benefit his career path. Staying Fraternally Rooted T his summer, Chapter President Aidan Shaffer '26 and AVC member Greg Pestinger '86 traveled to Richmond, Virginia, for the Ruck Leadership Institute. At SigEp's landmark leadership program, Chapter officers from across the country spent five days learning leadership principles and how to lead and inspire positive change in their Chapters and beyond. Aidan was mentored by executive-level alumni and engaged with brothers from across the country. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and donors, brothers like Aidan create actionable takeaways to lead their Chapters and grow as individuals for years to come. Though agriculture wasn't his first choice, E.G. pursued work in the grain industry after college due to his small-town Kansas background. He worked for multiple grain companies before pivoting to wheat milling with Cereal Food Processors prior to the company's acquisition by Grain Craft. Today, E.G. is the vice president of grain and logistics for Grain Craft. ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT When the Kansas Beta house was going through tough times, E.G. realized he could play a role in helping the Chapter's future alongside Greg Pestinger '86 and Dirk Daveline '87. "Their involvement pushed me to get involved because I knew they would definitely help get things back on the right track." E.G.'s AVC board involvement is a testament to his personal college experience, and he is grateful for the opportunities to connect with undergraduates and speak on SigEp's lifelong impact. Even three decades beyond college, E.G. still happily maintains strong bonds with his best friends from Kansas Beta E.G. and his wife, a Pi Phi and fellow KSU graduate, have two sons, including one K-State graduate and another in his senior year at the university. The Herl family enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, and attending various K-State sporting events in Manhattan or football bowl games. You can connect with E.G. at eherl@graincraft.com. E.G.
