The Hoop of Steel Kansas Beta | Kansas State University | Fall 2024 See How You Can Stay Involved ANOTHER YEAR OF KANSAS BETA BROTHERHOOD T he start of another school year is upon us, and for me, it has made the last 37 years of being on the AVC meaningful. The ability to interact with 25+ fresh faces every fall and to watch the men grow and advance during their time at KSU and in the Fraternity brings joy and excitement. This year's class, and men we have already signed for the spring, have put us back on track to get the house full of engaging and vibrant young men I am proud to call brothers. ALUMNI MENTORSHIP Over the last five to six years, we have mentioned our mentoring program. Most of you likely have a business mentor, and if you have had as good of an experience with them as me, you would wish that you could have had one earlier, even back in college. Sigma Phi Epsilon has tried to push this as part of the Balanced Man Program for more than 30 years, but our Chapter just hasn't figured the right formula. Maybe it just takes the right people with the right amount of time, but in the last five months, I have had no less than six brothers reach out and ask how to get involved. The program is run by Chapter Counselor Lucas Renz '18. The first step is to identify yourself, followed by Lucas finding an undergraduate that might fit. Mentorship typically involves phone or in-person contact two to three times a year. More importantly, you act as a resource or sounding board for the undergraduate as he goes through college. If you are interested, please reach out to me at dirkdaveline@gmail.com or Lucas at luke.renz27@gmail.com. SUPPORT THE BROTHERHOOD Founders Day is coming upon us on November 1, and our Chapter has moved up the ladder of giving over the last couple years to be among the top 10 SigEp Chapters in the United States. Founders Day funds support programs that are offered to undergraduates by the national Fraternity and create a stronger bond to the Fraternity than just local programming. You can make a deductible or non-deductible gift today by visiting our local fundraising page at kansasstate.sigep.org to contribute directly to various funds. Please consider doing your part as an alumni brother to keep our Chapter rising back to the top at Kansas State. Finally, it wouldn't be a newsletter without me thanking you for any support you have shown in the past and reminding you that we still have debt from prior renovations. Any contribution that you can make to the Fraternity would be appreciated. Please mail those to P.O. Box 427, Manhattan, KS 66505. Go Cats!
