Charles was born in Polk County, NC and is a son of the Late John M. and Nellie Jones Edwards. He served our country as a member of the United States Army and retired from Broyhill Furniture Company. He is survived by his wife Hattie Brown Edwards; one daughter, Lisa Guffey; two sons, Timothy Edwards and wife Alicia, Joe Edwards and wife Jamie; one sister, Jean Guffey and husband Ron; three brothers, John Edwards and wife Opal, Kenneth Edwards and wife Mildred, Terry Edwards and wife Donna; nine grandchil- dren, eight great grandchil- dren and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Rick Guffey and one great grand- child. A funeral was held December 22 at Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church with Rev. Chad Sisk, Rev. Leon Brown and Rev. John T. Edwards officiating. Military Honors were provid- ed by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. Diane Bailey Callahan Diane Bailey Callahan, 81, of Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Alvin and Hazel Moore Bailey. Diane worked in banking and was a member of Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church. Left to cherish her mem- ories are her husband, Andy Callahan; son Trip Callahan, daughter Allison Hunt and husband Shane, five grand- children, sister Gloria Hodge and husband Greg. In addition to her par- ents, Diane was preceded in death by her brother Larry Bailey. Funeral services were held December 22 at Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dobbins, age 70 of Shelby died Tuesday, December 19, 2023. Ricky was born April 9, 1953, in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Fred Dobbins and Lela Mae Branch Fish. His is survived by his wife, Mary Judy Dobbins of Shelby, his son, Eric Jason Dobbins of Shelby, his daughter, Chrissy Baughman Irvin and hus- band Guy of Shelby, his step- father, J.D. Fish of Shelby, four grandchildrenand one great-grandchild. A service from the graveside was held December 22 at Cleveland Memorial Park. Madison "Maddie" Goode Madison "Maddie" Goode, age 23, of Ellenboro, passed away, Thursday, December 21, 2023. Maddie was born January 12, 2000, in Augusta, GA. She worked as a nursing assistant at Oak Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and as a waitress for Fatz and for Randall's Restaurant in Ellenboro. She was a mem- ber of The Barn Fellowship in Ellenboro. She was preceded in death by her grandpar- ents, Max Robert Philbeck, Coleen Hames and Bobby Goode. Those left to treasure her memory include her chil- dren, Kalia Marley Hamilton and Kyndell Millie Hamilton; her parents, Samantha and Billy Reynolds of Ellenboro and Billy Goode of Shelby; siblings, Joshua Dylan Goode (Stacy) of Mooresboro, Savanah Good of Shelby, Robert Jacob Goode (Courtney) of Mooresboro, Hannah Goode (Micah Yarboro) of Tryon and Tripp Reynolds (Emily) of Rutherfordton; grandpar- ents, Norma Jean Philbeck and Gary and Darlene Reynolds; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 2pm on Wednesday, December 27 at The Barn Fellowship with Rev. Sam Henderson offici- ating. Kay Greene Watts Kay Greene Watts, age 87, of Ellenboro, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, December 23, 2023. Kay was born March 5, 1936 in Rutherford County to the late Renzo Greene and Verdia Biggerstaff Greene. She worked in housekeeping and as a cook for Cleveland Regional Medical Center and Rutherford Regional Medical Center for over 20 years. She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preced- ed in death by a son, Dan McGinnis; brothers, David and Bobby Greene; sisters, Dot Coker and Barbara Henderson; stepson, Danny Watts, two great grandchil- dren, Dillon McMahan and Caleb Watts and a daughter- in-law, Donna A. McGinnis. Those left to cherish her memory are her hus- band of 33 years, Theron Watts; sons, David McGinnis and Doug McGinnis (Cindy); stepdaughters, Pam Campana (Roger) and Angie Blanton (Shawn); step- son, Tony Watts (Jennine); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 3pm Thursday, December 28 at Glenwood Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Ervin and Rev. Ricky Poteat officiating. Roy Billy Scruggs, Jr., Roy Billy "Bill" Scruggs, Jr., 75 of Cliffside, NC passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023. Bill was a graduate of Chase High School. He was an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer for much of his career. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a Volunteer Fireman and First Responder at Cliffside and later at Grassy Pond in Gaffney. He was a mem- ber of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gaffney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Scruggs, Sr. and Lib Gantt Scruggs; father-in-law, Gene Taylor; brother-in-law, Eddie Taylor; grandson, Gavin. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Taylor Scruggs; daughter, Jessie Scruggs; granddaughter, Luci; mother-in-law, Billie Taylor of Gaffney; sister, Mary Beason and husband, Freddie of Cliffside; sister- in-law, Robin Taylor; two nieces, one great-niece, one great-nephew. Alma "Ann" Marlow Alma "Ann" Rosetta Moore Marlow, 77, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 18, 2023. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Cline; sister, Anita Deaton; niece, Deshondela Swink. Left to cherish her memory are her fiance', David Burch; sons, Lewis Morrison (Susie) and Scott Swafford (Mandee); daugh- ters, Lissa Roseman (Gary), Lorie Lee (Derrick) and Lynn Smathers (Eric); 16 grand- children; 20 great-grandchil- dren; 1 niece; 1 nephew. She was a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and worked at Kings Mountain Hospital for 20 years. Robert Morgan Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the family. Charles Terry Watkins Charles Terry Watkins, age 89 of Forest City died Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Terry was born September 28, 1934, in Forest City and was the son of the late Charles and Nell Westbrook Watkins. Terry was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and attended Brevard College. His interest in cars began at an early age working with his father at Charles Watkins Auto Exchange, a business he later grew into one of the largest pre-owned auto deal- erships in the area. The dealership expand- ed over the years to include Watkins Truck Center, Watkins Recon operation as well as Watkins Service Center. He also operated Watkins Properties and Watkins Car Rental. He retired as President and CEO of Watkins Automobiles. He was a lifelong mem- ber of First United Methodist Church of Forest City. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Glady Nell Watkins Elliott. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jackie Reepe Watkins, his daugh- ters, Lindsay Watkins West of Charleston, SC, Gaye Watkins Ridenhour and husband Tim of Forest City, and Lisa Watkins Griffith of Forest City, his sister, Joyce Watkins Waters of Forest City, three grandsons, and several nieces and neph- ews. A service from the graveside was held December 23, 2023, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Forest City. The Rev. Curtis Goforth officiated.
