Bridge Opens Ahead of Schedule Construction crews have expedited construction on Strickland Bridge Road and the road has now reopened to traffic. The road was originally planned to reopen to traffic by Sept. 1, 2013. After hearing the concerns of residents, the city manager, engineering and infrastructure director, representatives from the police and fire departments and traffic engineer with the City of Fayetteville met with N.C. Department of Transportation officials to find ways of lessening the impact that road construction would have on the community. In addition, a letter was sent to NCDOT from Mayor Tony Chavonne. The NCDOT reached an arrangement with the contractor to provide financial incentives to complete the project ahead of schedule. By using multiple work crews, replacement of the bridge over Rockfish Creek was completed ahead of schedule. While Strickland Bridge Road has been reopened to traffic, there is still more construction work to complete on the road. The whole project is projected to be completed by February 2014. Parks & Recreation Earns Partner in Prevention Designation to Protect Children Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation has been awarded a "Partner in Prevention" designation, a nationally-recognized public standard to end child sexual abuse (CSA). The designation was awarded for Parks & Recreation's commitment to protecting children by training its staff on how to prevent and recognize the signs of and react responsibly to CSA. Partner in Prevention was created as a national standard to help parents and caregivers recognize organizations who take CSA prevention seriously by implementing policy and training staff. D2L's training curriculum points out that CSA is pervasive in a society where it is repressed and not discussed. Thousands of organizations across the U.S. and Canada are now seeking out a dialogue for prevention and they are sending parents and the community a message with the Partner in Prevention distinction.
