4th Friday Brings the Arts Alive in Downtown Fayetteville a STAFF REPORT On Aug. 23, Fayetteville continues its longstanding tradition of celebrating the arts at 4th Friday. For 4th Friday, the businesses of downtown Fayetteville stay open later than normal and many offer entertainment such as live music. Each 4th Friday is unique, but they all provide a safe and fun environment for the whole family to enjoy. For the kids, the place to be during 4th Friday is Fascinate-U. This child-oriented museum will be open from 7 to 9 p.m., and will also offer a free craft. This craft is a paper-bag dog puppet that celebrates the "Dog Days of Sumer." Admission to the museum is also free for 4th Friday attendees. The Museum is located at 116 Green St. For more information, visit www.fascinate-u.com. During 4th Friday, the art scene of Fayetteville also comes alive. At the Arts Council a new exhibit will open. This exhibit is part of the Unique Visions series the council sponsors and the theme is The Gift of Folk Art . The Gallery is located at 301 Hay St., and will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information visit www. theartscouncil.com/exhibitsmain.php Cape Fear Studious, located at 148 Maxwell St., is also a hub for creativity in Why Choose Us? the Fayetteville area. Studio members must be juried in. Members work in an impressive range of mediums. There are painters, potters, woodworkers, metal smiths and lampwork artists and each artist displays their works in the studio. During 4th Friday, there will be artists in the studio available to answer questions. For anyone interested in learning about our local history, there are many places to visit on 4th Friday. The market house is the center of Downtown Fayetteville, and is a center for knowledge as well. The museum has a permanent exhibit about downtown Fayetteville and an additional exhibit that changes every month. For August, the exhibit is about Lafayette in Fayetteville. The Market House will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. For more information, visit www.fcpr.us/transportation_museum. aspx. The Fayetteville Transportation Museum will also be open late. The museum is located at 325 Franklin St., and is dedicated to sharing knowledge about the area's past. The museum features fun exhibits such as a model train room, steamboat interactive and a recreated station agent's office. In the museums annex transportation is highlighted by displays featuring vintage cars, 1920's gas pumps and exhibits on the early history of Fort Bragg. The museum is open from 6 to 10 p.m. during the 4th Friday event. Shops and restaurants all throughout downtown will also be open. There will be live music in many of the stores and the event is family friendly. And even though 4th Friday has been happening in Downtown Fayetteville for years, each night is a unique adventure.
