4th Friday Brings the Arts Alive in Downtown Fayetteville
a STAFF REPORT
On Aug. 23, Fayetteville continues its longstanding tradition of celebrating the arts at
4th Friday. For 4th Friday, the businesses of
downtown Fayetteville stay open
later than normal and many offer
entertainment such as live music.
Each 4th Friday is unique, but
they all provide a safe and fun
environment for the whole family
to enjoy.
For the kids, the place to be during
4th Friday is Fascinate-U. This
child-oriented museum will be open
from 7 to 9 p.m., and will also offer
a free craft. This craft is a paper-bag
dog puppet that celebrates the "Dog
Days of Sumer." Admission to the
museum is also free for 4th Friday
attendees. The Museum is located at
116 Green St. For more information,
visit www.fascinate-u.com.
During 4th Friday, the art scene of Fayetteville
also comes alive. At the Arts Council a new
exhibit will open. This exhibit is part of the
Unique Visions series the council sponsors and
the theme is The Gift of Folk Art . The Gallery
is located at 301 Hay St., and will be open from
7 to 9 p.m. For more information visit www.

the Fayetteville area. Studio members must
be juried in. Members work in an impressive
range of mediums. There are painters, potters,
woodworkers, metal smiths and lampwork artists
and each artist displays their works in the studio.
During 4th Friday, there will be artists in the
studio available to answer questions. Cape Fear
Studios will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit www.

Fayetteville is an area rich in history. For
anyone interested in learning about our local
history, there are many places to visit on
4th Friday. The market house is the center
of Downtown Fayetteville, and is a center
for knowledge as well. The museum has a
permanent exhibit about downtown Fayetteville
and an additional exhibit that changes every
month. For August, the exhibit is
about Lafayette in Fayetteville. The
Market House will be open from 6 to
10 p.m. For more information, visit

The Fayetteville Transportation
Museum will also be open late. The
museum is located at 325 Franklin St.,
and is dedicated to sharing knowledge
about the area's past. The museum
features fun exhibits such as a model
train room, steamboat interactive and
a recreated station agent's office. In
the museums annex transportation
is highlighted by displays featuring
vintage cars, 1920's gas pumps and
exhibits on the early history of Fort Bragg. The
museum is open from 6 to 10 p.m. during the
4th Friday event.
Shops and restaurants all throughout
downtown will also be open. There will be live
music in many of the stores and the event is
family friendly. And even though 4th Friday has
been happening in Downtown Fayetteville for
years, each night is a unique adventure.
