Dickson St., Fayetteville COST — $10 INFO — waltonartscenter.org MONICA HOOPER NWA Democrat-Gazette G aelic Storm's lineup may have changed over the last 20 years, but their dedication to bringing traditional Celtic music with a twist of Americana has maintained strong roots. If you're looking for a wide range of music, look no further than the Walton Arts Center in mid-November. Gaelic Storm "We always make sure that we have a fiddle player who's steeped in the old school traditional sound and tunes. And of course, the bagpipes," says Stephen Twigger, a founding member of Gaelic Storm. "A lot of these tunes that we're playing are over 100 years old." Those elements, he says, function as a foundation for their sound, but then they"weave in" other things that inspire them. "I live in Austin, Texas, and of course there's lots of great music everywhere you look. Since living down here, I really got in tune with a lot of rockabilly and singer-songwriter/acoustic guitar traditions," Twigger explains. "There's so many talented people!" Within Gaelic Storm, he says, even more musical influences abound among the four members. "Our drummer comes from a rock background himself and hip hop. He played with a lot of bands before us." Twigger adds that Peter Purvis, who plays bagpipes, Uillean pipes, DegerPipes and whistles, "used to do acting and musical theater himself. So we've got some interesting backgrounds." A theatrical background is shared by the founding members of the group. In 1997 they played the Irish band in the movie "Titanic." Not too long after the movie, the original lineup of Gaelic Storm started touring internationally. Since then Gaelic Storm has released 13 albums.
