November 13 - 19, 2022 BY RAYE SMITH TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "The Santa Clauses" Tim Allen ("Toy Story," 1995) re- turns to the screen to keep holi- day cheer alive as Santa in the new miniseries "The Santa Clauses," premiering Wednes- day, Nov. 16, on Disney+. A con- tinuation of the hit Santa Clause film series, "The Santa Clauses" finds Scott Calvin (Allen), aka Santa Claus, on the brink of his 65th birthday and, after being Santa for nearly 30 years, realiz- ing he can't keep the job forever. Learning that there's a way for him to retire from his post, Scott sets out to find a suitable re- placement to don the red suit. Meanwhile, his family prepares to take on another new adven- ture when they return to life south of the pole. Created by Jack Burditt ("30 Rock"), the se- ries is based on characters creat- ed by "The Santa Clause" (1994) writers Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick. The series cast is rounded out by Elizabeth Mitch- ell ("Outer Banks"), Kal Penn ("Designated Survivor"), Austin Kane ("Godless"), relative new- comer Rupali Redd ("Bite Size Halloween"), Devin Bright ("The Unicorn"), Matilda Lawl- er ("Station Eleven"), Ashlan Rowan ("Perry Mason"), Isabel- la Bennett ("KidCoin," 2021) and new talent Elizabeth Allen-Dick. WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "The People We Hate at the Wedding" (2022) Family tensions come to a head in the new film "The People We Hate at the Wedding," premier- ing Friday, Nov. 18, on Prime Vid- eo. Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Grant Ginder (and created by Ginder himself), the film follows struggling sib- lings Alice (Kristen Bell, "Veron- ica Mars") and Paul (Ben Platt, "Dear Evan Hansen," 2021) as they reluctantly agree to attend the wedding of their estranged, wealthy, snobby half-sister (Cynthia Addai-Robinson, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power"). Over the course of the wedding week, spent in the Eng- lish countryside with their mother, Donna (Allison Janney, "Mom"), family skeletons are ripped from the closet. With ev- erything suddenly brought out into the open, this dysfunctional family reunion gives everyone the motivation to move forward with their lives. Directed by Claire Scanlon ("The Office"), the film features a screenplay penned by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin (both of "Bob's Burgers"). "The People We Hate at the Wedding" also stars Karan Soni ("Dead- pool," 2016), Dustin Milligan ("Schitt's Creek"), Tony Gold- wyn ("Scandal"), Isaach De Bankolé ("Casino Royale," 2006), Jorma Taccone ("Satur- day Night Live"), Julian Oven- den ("Downton Abbey") and John Macmillan ("House of the Dragon"). WHAT'S NEW ON AMC+ "Gangs of London" - Season 2 The fight for power in London's criminal underbelly continues when the British crime drama "Gangs of London" premieres its second season Thursday, Nov. 17, on AMC+. The series began as the head of London's most pow- erful crime family is assassinat- ed and a power vacuum is creat- ed in the wake of the event, tear- ing the city apart. Season 2 picks up one year after the first sea- son's shocking cliffhanger end- ing. Following the collapse of the Wallace Dunami empire, anar- chy rules the streets as the gangs scramble to take the power for themselves. Created for televi- sion by Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery (both of "Apostle," 2018), "Gangs of London" Sea- son 2 is directed by Corin Hardy ("The Hallow," 2015). WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Fleishman is in Trouble" Get ready to wade back into the dating pool with the new, nine- episode limited series "Fleish- man is in Trouble," premiering Thursday, Nov. 17, on Hulu. Based on series creator Taffy Brodesser-Akner's 2019 novel of the same name, the series fol- lows recently divorced 41-year- old surgeon Toby Fleishman (Jesse Eisenberg, "The Social Network," 2010) as he dives back into the wild world of app- based dating and experiences success he never had while dat- ing in his youth. But just as Toby comes into his own and starts to embrace his freedom, his ex- wife, Rachel (Claire Danes, "Homeland"), goes missing, leaving him alone with their children, Hannah (Meara Ma- honey Gross, "The Tender Bar," 2021) and Solly (Maxim Swin- ton, "Halston"), and with no in- dication of if or when she'll re- turn. As he tries to balance solo parenting with his demanding career, his burgeoning dating life and the return of his old friends, Libby (Lizzie Caplan, "Castle Rock") and Seth (Adam Brody, "The O.C."), Toby realiz- es he'll never figure out what happened to Rachel if he can't figure out what went wrong with their marriage in the first place. Directed by "American Splendor's" (2003) Shari Spring- er Berman and Robert Pulcini and "Little Miss Sunshine's" (2006) Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the cast of "Fleish- man is in Trouble" is rounded out by Mozhan Marnò ("The Blacklist"), Juani Feliz ("DMZ"), Eric Willam Morris ("As the World Turns"), Frances Li ("Tapes," 2020), Tara Westwood ("The Grudge," 2020), Josh Rad- nor ("How I Met Your Moth- er"), Tara Summers ("Mercy Street"), Ashley Austin Morris ("Sully," 2016), Brian Miskell ("Compliance," 2018), Ralph Adriel Johnson ("The Code") and newcomer Ava Yaghmaie. WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "Spirited" (2022) Charles Dickens' classic 1843 novel "A Christmas Carol" gets a modern new spin in the family musical comedy "Spirited," pre- miering Friday, Nov. 18, on Apple TV+. Each Christmas Eve, the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell, "Blades of Glory," 2007) selects one miserly soul to be visited and reformed by three spirits, who take them on a jour- ney through their past, present and future to get to the bottom of exactly how they became so miserable and alone. But the Ghost of Christmas Present may have finally met his match in Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds, "Deadpool," 2016), who turns the tables and has the ghost ex- amining his own past, present and future. "Spirited" is directed and written by Sean Anders and John Morris, who have previous- ly collaborated on comedy hits including "Hot Tub Time Ma- chine" (2010), "We're the Mill- ers" (2013), "Daddy's Home" (2015) and "Instant Family" (2018). The film also stars Octa- via Spencer ("Hidden Figures," 2016), Joe Tippett ("The Morn- ing Show"), Aimee Carrero ("Elena of Avalor"), Sunita Mani ("GLOW") and Jen Tullock ("Severance"). WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Christmas With You" (2022) Recharge with the ones you love this Christmas and settle in for a new family rom-com when "Christmas With You" pre- mieres Thursday, Nov. 17, on Netflix. Struggling with career burnout and looking for a change, pop star Angelina (Ai- mee Garcia, "Lucifer") escapes to a small town in New York to grant a young fan's wish. While there, she finds not only the in- spiration to revitalize her career but also a shot at true love. Co- starring Freddie Prinze Jr. ("She's All That," 1999), the cast of "Christmas With You" is rounded out by Gabriel Sloyer ("Inventing Anna"), Lawrence J. Hughes ("Mike"), Deja Monique Cruz ("Manifest Evil," 2022), Ze- nzi Williams ("Black Panther," 2018), Elisa Bocanegra ("Girl- fight," 2000), Grace Dumdaw ("The Watcher"), Matthew Grimaldi ("The Sleepover," 2020), Helena Betancourt ("Or- ange Is the New Black") and Sammy Peralta ("City on a Hill").
