3 T o finish a strong season, the Hutt's basketball team advanced to the final tournament where, after winning four consecutive tournament games, they advanced to the final championship, led by Zac Genilo '23, Matthew Connor '23, Jackson Glynn '23, Riley Dick '22, Sam Shaffer '22, Cade Gollier '24, Michael Nulton '24, Nick Blackford '24, and Connor Loney '25. On March 24, Alpha Nu defeated Sigma Chi in KU's intramural basketball championship at Allen Fieldhouse. "Playing in Allen Fieldhouse was an experience I'll never forget," said Zac. "It's a rare opportunity to get to play in the most historic venue in college basketball, and it makes it even better when you have the whole house cheering you on." A night of intense competition and loud cheers led the Hutt to take away the win with a final score of 44-34. Matthew went on to say, "It was incredible to be able to play basketball in a competitive environment with members of the Hutt. It was certainly one of the greatest experiences I've had. With dozens of house members going to all our games, it was easy to stay motivated and work hard." Overall, the evening was filled with fun, excitement, pride, and brotherhood. When asked about the night, Cade concluded with, "Almost everyone in the house showed up to watch, which made the environment incredible! It's something I'll remember forever." L ast winter break, Chris Stillman '24 and Jake Hiss '23 visited Belize City, Belize, to assist the Belize Hospice Palliative Care Foundation (BHPCF) in its endeavors to care for the impoverished. "Traveling to Belize City was a step out of our comfort zones," Jake Hiss '23 said. "I couldn't be more grateful for how the experience challenged us both physically and mentally to serve others and to recognize the blessings that we take for granted." To expand on their experience, Chris, Jake, and Philanthropy Chairman Tyler Chapple '24 organized a basketball tournament in April at the house, inviting 10 fraternities and sororities to compete in fun competition to help a great cause. "After working with the BHPCF, it was really an amazing experience getting to have such a big turnout for a cause I had worked with firsthand," Chris shared. "I never thought I'd see multiple sororities practicing at the rec nights before the event, but that's what made the event so fun." The Friday afternoon filled with food, friendship, and fun raised over $5,000 for the BHPCF mission in Belize. "While hosting the fundraiser, it was amazing to see people all across KU Greek life enjoying coming together to support a very worthy cause," Jake said. "I know our donations have gone directly to those in need and have made a large impact in Belize City." Alpha Nu hopes to make this spring basketball tournament a yearly event that helps a different charity each time.
