4 T his past semester, Alpha Nu started a new tradition: Legends of the Hutt. Organized by housemother Melanie Moss and the executive board, the Hutt uses the event to invite a distinguished alumnus to dinner each month. When the idea spurred from Mom Moss, everyone in the house was excited for the new, monthly event. The goal of the program is to allow house members to gain a greater perspective of what life can be like after the Hutt, encouraging them to work hard and gain as much from their college experience as they can. By inviting alumni from a variety of generations, members can connect with them in different ways. "These events enabled all of us to see how the house has changed culturally from year to year," said Will Harding '25. "They help motivate each and every one of us to be the best version of ourselves." This spring's Legends of the Hutt included Tom Babb '19, John Dicus '83, and Henry Redmond '20. In addition to sharing memories from their time at the house, each of these alumni shared important advice to all Alpha Nu members. When asked what the biggest takeaway from the evening was, Jake Bisch '25 said, "Alumni would always mention how being at the Hutt is a life-changing experience and that they would do anything to go back and do it all over again. I learned to never take my time for granted and to make memories that will last forever." When asked why he liked the events, Turner Seals '24 said, "I've been able to think differently about the future while also cherishing the few years I get to spend in 1425 Tennessee more than ever." Henry Redmond '20 shares advice with his Alpha Nu brothers. A s a new school year begins, I'm happy to report that Alpha Nu has continued to uphold its longstanding tradition of strong academics, involvement, and brotherhood. SPRING ACTIVITIES This past spring, the house finished first in grades with an incredible semester GPA of 3.63. With many COVID-19 restrictions loosened, Alpha Nu took full advantage of new opportunities. We led a philanthropy event, Baskets for Belize, which welcomed hundreds of Greek life members to the house and raised over $5,000. Additionally, the house began Legends of the Hutt, providing an even greater opportunity for current house members to engage in conversation and relationship with alumni from several generations (read more about that below). To get excited for what is soon to be the 150th year of Alpha Nu, all 96 members visited Spencer Research Library in March to look through pictures, letters, and Alpha Nu experiences dating back to 1873. SUMMER ABROAD AND INTERNSHIPS Over the summer, 20 members of the house participated in study abroad programs, making up for two years without these opportunities. Fourteen underclassmen spent a month in Italy, four ventured to Slovenia, and two spent the summer taking classes in Paris. In addition to spending the summer across the pond, countless other members participated in lucrative, exclusive internship opportunities. To name a couple, Bobby Ahern '23 worked at JP Morgan Private Bank in Dallas and TaeVheon Alcorn '23 spent his summer working at Wells Fargo's investment banking division in New York City. On the hill, the Hutt continues to stride. Twelve juniors and seniors are now members of the Jennett Finance Scholars, making up over 30 percent of the total program. Additionally, Turner Seals '24 was recently elected student body treasurer. Once again, Alpha Nu holds an executive position on the IFC board with Luke Stanford '24 serving as director of philanthropy. FALL INITIATION AND ANNIVERSARY This fall, we are welcoming 25 members into the pledge class of 2026. Ten members come from Kansas while 15 come from other states throughout the country, ranging from Vermont to Colorado to California. With the 150th anniversary of Alpha Nu soon approaching, we are excited to welcome countless alumni back to the Hutt. Dozens of house members, who would not otherwise have a specific leadership position, are now given the opportunity to make this year extremely special for both those currently in the house and those who came before us. In an ever-changing world, we look forward to continuing Alpha Nu's great traditions and building upon a history filled with accomplishment, character, and success. We look forward to welcoming many of you back to Usher Mansion this year!
