Mormons to use technology in missionary work SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The common image of Mormon missionaries has long been two young men wearing white shirts and ties walking through neighborhoods, knocking door-to-door. But in a few years, that image may be replaced by one of young Mormons sitting with an iPad, typing messages on Facebook. Recognizing the world has changed, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leaders announced Sunday night that missionaries will do less doorto-door proselytizing, and instead, use the Internet to recruit new church members. The strategy shift reflects the growing importance of social media and people's preference to connect over sites such as Facebook rather than opening their homes to strangers, church leaders said. "The way in which we fulfill our responsibilities to share the gospel must adapt to a changing world," said Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles during a presentation to mission presidents in Provo, Utah, that was broadcast worldwide. The move is the latest example of the LDS church's gradual embrace of the digital age, and a recognition that doorto-door proselytizing is not the most effective way to expand church membership, church scholars said. Many of the details about how the social media work will be carried out by missionaries and monitored by mission presidents have yet to be ironed out, church officials said. But it's clear that the new rules mark a significant change in the way the church governs Internet access for missionaries. Previously, Internet use for missionaries was limited to once a week and only for communicating with friends and family back home or accessing official church sites. Those rules were designed to reduce distractions and temptations for missionaries expected to devote all their attention to serving the Lord, while leaving behind personal affairs. &Worship Serenity — Making people better I was re-watching one of my per cent, the ones who experienced a favorite movies when it suddenly rebound effect from the drug. They did what prophecy like that contained in Serenitotalitarians with an idealistic bent have ty? If we are believers we do at least done since time began. They tried to two things. We expose the truth – make human beings better. And like whatever it takes. That is not a safe the Nazis, the Communists, and the thing to do – as Mal and his crew know Khmer Rouge they succeeded only in all too well. But the alternative is death bathing their worlds with blood and by pax; we just lay down and die – or death. In this case the population become reavers – which strikes me as became so passive they simply laid worse. So we speak out against politidown and died. Except for about ten cally correct efforts to make us better Wilson GodTalk by force – from death panels to unconstitutional gun control measures to speech codes to mandating government approved diversity to wreaking destruction on all families – gay and straight – by re-definition of marriage and banishing its Inventor from discussion. We speak, expose and stand on what we know to be true. Government will never concede it is wrong; it will simply invoke policies like the Cypriot threatened confiscation of wealth to pay for its mistakes. But persistent exposure is only the first thing and not the most important thing. The second thing is to recognize – and acknowledge – that we are no different, and certainly no better, than those we oppose. They are committed to doing what they believe to be good – albeit with no real clue how to go about it. They are like the operative in the movie, utterly convicted of their righteous cause. When we have held the power they decry we have routinely abused it in the same ways. If we would indeed become better we need to re-focus on the God who made us and would resurrect our humanity if we give Him half a chance. We call that activity repentance as lifestyle. The next National Day of Repentance is set for April 30, the anniversary of George Washington's first inaugural address. Go to www.dayofrepentance.org for details. The day and the activity are addressed to Christians only, but anyone so inclined is welcome to play. James A.
