WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM APRIL 7-13, 2021 UCW 19 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication New Things to Worry About Bradford Gauthier of Worcester, Massachusetts, had a bit of trouble swallowing when he woke up Feb. 2. Later, "I tried to drink a glass of water again and couldn't," he said, and that's when he realized one of the AirPods he sleeps with at night was missing and "felt a distinct blockage in the center of my chest," he said. KVEO reported that it didn't take ER doctors long to remove the AirPod lodged in Gauthier's esophagus in an emergency endoscopy. Family Values Prosecutors in Indianapolis charged Jeremy Farmer, 36, with murdering his father, Fred Farmer, 58, who disap- peared in November of 2019. Without a body, a weapon or a murder scene, detectives based their case instead on evidence that Jeremy cleaned out his dad's bank account, used his truck and credit cards, and likely sent fake texts full of emojis that Fred never used from his father's cellphone to family and friends for two months after the disappearance, WXIN-TV reported. Police hope someone will come for- ward with information about the fate of Fred Farmer. Police Report Brandon Soules, 19, was arrested by police in Coolidge, Arizona, for falsely reporting to police that he had been kidnapped. On Feb. 10, police found Soules lying near a water tower with his hands bound behind his back and a bandana in his mouth, the Associ- ated Press reported. Soules said two men had kidnapped him, knocked him unconscious and driven him around in his car looking for money his father had hidden around town, but detectives could find no evidence of a kidnapping or assault, and when pressed, Soules confessed he made the story up to avoid work at The Tire Fac- tory, which subsequently fired him. The Passing Parade Mr. Friendly Auto Service in War- ren, Michigan, is one of two auto re- pair businesses in the area targeted by a serial pooper, police say. The man, seen on surveillance video, entered parked, unlocked vehicles to do his business, leaving his deposit behind, Fox 2 reported. The man first struck in November and returned in January. In February, police said, the man struck at nearby Twin Tire, going from car to car until he found one left unlocked. Question: e CW is going all-out on promotion for "Superman & Lois." From the trailer, it looks to have a larger bud- get and more cinematic style than other Arrowverse series. Tyler Hoechlin is also a very charismatic lead and I think that he can carry the show to great heights. Now, we all know that TV ratings aren't what they used to be. But do you think that "Superman & Lois" could be a breakout hit for e CW? — Eli Matt Roush: Out of curiosity, I looked back to see how "Smallville" did for the still-lamented WB Network, and was stunned to see that it averaged 6 mil- lion-7 million viewers in its first seasons in the early 2000s, when that was seen as a generally low number, though not anymore. (It later came down to earth with a 2-3 million average for its later seasons, reflecting the overall slip- page for broadcast network viewing). If "Superman & Lois" could reach those heights, it would be an enormous top- 10 hit given today's standards, but that's highly unlikely. e best we should hope for is that it will rank in the top tier of CW shows, like "Walker" has done. I expect this will get a solid tune-in given the appeal of its title, its legend and its casting but if it gets too tangled in some CW "verse" where it can't stand on its own as a series, that would probably inhibit it from being the breakout you're hoping for. By Damian Holbrook Cheers to "e Stand" for rewriting a previous wrong. anks to a new ending penned by Stephen King himself, CBS All Access' take on his epic end-of-days novel gave heroine Frannie (Odessa Young) the well-deserved showdown with baddie Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård) she didn't get in the book. Jeers to Hulu for bringing "Shrill" to a screeching halt. e only silver lining to the abrupt news that Aidy Bryant's delightful comedy — a 'at Girl' for women over size 2 — will end with its long-delayed third season is that Bryant is finally able to do more on "Saturday Night Live" — and they definitely need her!
