6A Daily News – Friday, May 31, 2013 Opinion DAILY NEWS RED BLUFF TEHAMA COUNTY T H E V O I C E O F T E H A M A C O U NTY S I N C E 1 8 8 5 Greg Stevens, Publisher gstevens@redbluffdailynews.com Chip Thompson, Editor editor@redbluffdailynews.com Editorial policy The Daily News opinion is expressed in the editorial. The opinions expressed in columns, letters and cartoons are those of the authors and artists. Don Polson Editor: I read Larry grays article in today's paper and absolutely agree. My main complaint about this opinionated wind bag is his constant slamming of union labor. His article in mid November concerning the Raley's strikers and organized labor was an absolute disgrace to our community, and in my opinion the Daily News. I've spoken to Richard Mazzucchi and Robert Minch concerning this man's employment history and I'm not very impressed. I have also sent Polson a rebuttal concerning his article and his union busting attempts, which I will send you also. A paid anti-union lobbyist could not belittle and humiliate more than this glorified sales man. He has and does continually talk out his butt in regards to organized labor. His opinionated rhetoric is about as in focus as a fundamentalist male Muslim's is on women's rights. Please shut off the gas and stop him from embarrassing our community any further. Maybe his writing skills would be more appreciated in maybe Orland or Corning or, better yet, another state. Terry Van Dyke, Red Bluff Use at-risk youth to clean up graffiti Editor: The recent article in the Daily News, "Gang graffiti escalating in Red Bluff" by Rich Greene, reports how the City Council, the RBPD and even a resident asked members and where they how his church could assist live and if that household receives a check in cleaning up and from the Tehama preventing the vanYour County Department dalism. of Social Services, Using the Tehama hold those houseCounty Probation holds responsible Department's at-risk to clean up the youth to clean up graffiti or lose their welfare gang graffiti is a start. Commentary Get thee to a computer Some readers write letters or call in their responses rather than send e mails. This is because either they do not have access to a computer… or they have never taken the time to learn the only efficient way of communication today. They are computer illiterate. This is not the same as totally illiterate, per se, but it is limiting in a number of ways. They protest they are either too old or too impatient. These folks are not about to learn new tricks. Regardless, we welcome all comment except from the permanently impaired who do not perceive me to be the reincarnation of H. Caen. *** Will Rogers on aging: "The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for." "Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me; I want people to know why I look this way. I've travelled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved." And "One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it's such a nice change from being young." This is not a part of today's quiz, but what do Ronnie Lott (great 49er defensive back) Steve Mariucci (former coach of the 49ers) and yours truly have in common, but not with Steve Young or Joe Montana? I defy you to Google the answer to this one. Answer: We attended, last Saturday, the graduation of the Class of 2013 from Saint Francis High School in Mountain View. Amongst the graduates were Mr. Lott's daughter Chloe Jeanne, Mr. Mariucci's daughter Brielle Gayle and our grandson Cole Minch Dooley, son of Maralyn and Justin Dooley. We did not mingle with the Lott/Mariucci faction, nor were we invited to an after-graduation snack at their respective homes. And yet we were very proud of our grandson who graduated cum laude. As a side bar to the above, Cole was one of more than 400 graduates. In my day, there were not more than 400 in our entire RBUHS student body…and I did not graduate cum laude. Not even close. I was a yell leader one year, but that was not reflected on my diploma. Sigh. *** And speaking of proud (this column is beginning to sound like a Xmas card enclosure) may I direct your attention to the Sacramento Police Department's 2013 Commendation Awards Luncheon and Ceremony a week ago?
