After the awards were given, they took turns reading out loud to the audience. The 2013 Tehama County Writing Celebration was held on May 22 at the State Theater in Red Bluff to showcase and celebrate student authors. The fun-filled celebration included student recognition, a raffle, and a special presentation. Student authors were recognized with certificates of participation, proficiency, or advanced writing. Entries are judged in the spirit of celebrating young authors in our county by a team of teachers and administrators. Student writing was scored using holistic rubrics on May 14. The event also included author Mike Graf. "My national park adventure series is something I am very proud of," Graf said. "The Adventures with the Parkers series currently has eight books published taking place in: Zion/Bryce, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Great Smoky Mountains, Olympic, Glacier, and the Rocky Mountains." Graf future works will include Arches/Canyonlands, the Badlands/Mt. Rushmore and more. "This series has already received national attention, awards, and excellent reviews," Graf said. Graf taught 4th and 5th grades and GATE classes for 10 years and was a district mentor teacher in science and weather. During his first year of teaching, he was recognized as one of the Top 100 New Teachers in the Country by Fannie Mae Inc.
