Brush one side of 4 bread slices lightly with 1/2 of dressing; place dressing side down, on cutting board. Top each with equal amounts of cheese, beef pastrami and peppers. 2. Spread one side of remaining 4 bread slices evenly with pesto; place pesto side down, on top of sandwiches. Brush tops of bread slices lightly with remaining dressing. 3. Total preparation and cooking time: 25 minutes. Makes 4 servings. Drug dog visits Corning Exchange Special to the DN Corning Police Department Sgt. Jeremiah Fears and his K-9 partner Oso were the guest speakers at the April 15 Corning Exchange Club meeting at the Iron Skillet. Fears is a 13-year veteran police officer, and six-year-old Oso, has been a K-9 member of the Corning Police Department for four years. Oso is a highly trained narcotics dog and can stiff out drug instruments, residual odor, drug tainted money, and drug stashes. Fears and Oso have been responsible for taking over 8,000 pounds of marijuana, and hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and other drugs off the streets. In the course of making arrests Oso has had to bite eighteen people, but Sergeant Fears is quick to point out that Oso only bites and holds on command. Oso attended the K-9 Academy in Sacramento for three months before being certified for use in the field; and Fears and Courtesy photo Corning Police Department Sgt. Unlike most K-9 dogs Oso has been conditioned to be off the leash at all times while on patrol. Oso lives with the Fears' family and each night when coming off Courtesy photo On April 25, Marley Fuchs of Sacred Heart Parish Cub Scout Pack 417 was awarded the Arrow of Light. The Arrow of Light is the highest award in Cub Scouting and recognizes a scout's high level of commitment and achievement throughout his Cub Scouting years. It is significant as it is the only Cub Scout award patch that is allowed to be worn on the Boy Scout uniform. The Arrow of Light recognition was followed by the Crossover Ceremony marking the conclusion of the Marley's journey through the Cub Scout program and the beginning of his adventures in the Boy Scout program. 90 years patrol, first checks the children before she eats and goes to bed. Fears said that Oso loves kids, and especially enjoys going to local schools to demonstrate her unique skills. The members of the Corning Exchange Club were incredibly impressed with both Oso and Sgt. Fears, and expressed their pleasure that Chief Atkins and the Corning Police Department had the foresight and funding to field this great K-9 team. Arrow of Light ago... Workmen Remodel The Conard Building Opposite Tremont Workmen are remodeling the A. L. Conard building opposite the Tremont hotel, making extensive improvements on the two-story structure. Carpenters, bricklayers, plasterers, electricians and plumbers have been on the job for several days and probably will finish in about two weeks. Walter Ternstead is in charge of the work.
