School Resource Officer Aaron Murray learned the teen, who was on probation and had already been expelled from school, went on campus to attend a dance on Friday night. The teen ignored a teacher's instructions to leave campus and was escorted from the dance, according to a Red Bluff Police press release. Murray contacted the teen's probation officer, who See TEEN, page 7A Talk to cover biking, walking in community Photo courtesy of Larry Smith Monty Lewis, 2004 World Champion Tie-Down Roper, competes at last year's Red Bluff RoundUp. He, along with other former and current world champions, will be in Red Bluff for the Round-Up this weekend. Rodeo's brightest stars will be in Red Bluff for this weekend's Red Bluff Round-Up. Seven of the nine reigning Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association 2012 World Champions will compete in Red Bluff, and of the 476 on the roster, there are about 15 former world champions. The contestant list includes cowboys and cowgirls who are currently in the world standings and are past world champions: steer wrestler Dean Gorsuch, bareback riders Will Lowe and Bobby Mote, barrel racer Brittany Pozzi, and many others. The current world champions competing in Red Bluff are bareback rider Kaycee Feild, steer wrestler Luke Branquinho, team roper Jade Corkill, tie-down roper Tuff Cooper, saddle bronc rider Jesse Wright, barrel racer Mary Walker, and all-around champion Trevor Brazile, who is a seventeen time world champion. For many of the cowboys and cowgirls, Red Bluff is a rodeo they don't want to miss. The crowd's involvement is part of the excitement. Luke Branquinho, 2012 World Champion Steer Wrestler, loves the crowd participation. "The way the crowd gets into it is pretty special. They like everything about rodeo there." Branquinho, from Los Alamos won the Red Bluff RoundUp in 2004, and has never missed competing there in his thirteen year pro rodeo career. Saddle bronc rider Wade Sundell, Coleman, Okla., says the Round-Up is always exciting. "There's never a dull moment at that rodeo. It's a rodeo you don't want to miss because you're going to have a lot of fun there." Sundell has competed at Red Bluff four times, winning second and third places there in the past. He was part of the Wild Ride last year, Red Bluff's notorious saddle bronc riding where the cowboys dress up to ride broncs. "I was in on it with (2009 World Champion) Jesse Kruse. I didn't ride but I was a bystander in the arena with him." Kruse wore a Kermit the Frog costume, and Sundell dressed as Miss Piggy. "I was chasing him around the arena, and when he got off, I finally got him caught. It's a long ways running around there," he laughed. Tickets for the Red Bluff Round-Up are still available at RedBluffRoundup.com and through the rodeo office at 530 527-1000. The rodeo begins with three slack performances (for extra competition that does not fit into the performances) at 10 a.m. on April 17-19. The first performance is at 7 p.m. on April 19, followed by matinees at 2:30 p.m. on April 20 and 1:30 p.m. on April 21. The Sacramento River Discovery Center will host a discussion Thursday on how to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and infrastructure throughout Tehama County. Alan Abbs, Tehama County Trails coordinator, Sean Harrasser and Adam Hansen with Tehama County Transportation Commission, will share with the group attending the Sacramento River Discovery Center's Thursday evening program preliminary planning and maps of projects that are being considered. The free talk will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Westside Room at the Red Bluff Community Center, 1500 S. Jackson St. Access to locations within the communities as well as trails for recreation that access some of the beautiful natural areas within Tehama County will be presented. The goal is to provide the opportunity for area resi- dents to walk, run, scooter or bike safely. For some area residents there few options available for them to get from one place to another whether it be work, school, shopping or recreation. This community effort picks up where Trails United group, which had been planning trails since 1974, left off when it was disbanded. The Sacramento River Discovery Center organization has accepted the challenge to lead the effort that Trails United started. As we approach the 40th anniversary, the time has come to move forward and reach these goals and improve the mobility of all residents in Tehama County. All area residents interested in improving the trails and bikeways within the county are encouraged to attend.
