A fter receiving his bid from Beta Zeta in 2012, Evan Werckenthien '12 was confident that Delta Tau Delta would be an important aspect in defining the man he would become. Throughout his college days, Evan's experiences with Beta Zeta instilled valuable lessons in leadership and brotherhood. These lessons have endured throughout his professional career. As an undergraduate, Evan served as vice president and pledge educator. Although these positions were time consuming and hard work, Evan shares, "The time spent in each role allowed me to develop as a person. Executive offices and added responsibility roles held within the Shelter provided boundless opportunities for real-word experience that a college classroom can lack." He adds, "I faced challenges daily from having to delegate tasks, working with and leading different personality types, manifesting confidence to speak in front of my peers, listening to new ideas, and compromising, to name a few. I am very thankful for the time I spent in those leadership positions." Not only did he gain valuable skills outside of the classroom, Evan found that Delt's strong brotherhood transcends time. He recalls, "Older alumni who I had never met were using their own valuable time to support me throughout my time as an undergraduate." One of the most proving moments that demonstrated the breadth of the Beta Zeta brotherhood occurred while Evan was interning in New Jersey. "I spent six months in New Jersey for an internship. Alumni living in the area invited me out to lunch and made sure I was doing well. Brothers imparted professional guidance on my career, resume, and created an avenue for network connections. Looking back at their unconditional support cannot be measured with words." Although he is now an alumnus, Evan regards his pledge brothers as role models and bright lights in his life. "Being in the Beta Zeta brotherhood played an integral part in defining who I am today and who I still aim to become. As a freshman I would see the older Delts and think, 'Wow, I really want to excel in the classroom and carry myself as a true gentleman like my brother.' The leadership and positive influences that come from being a Beta Zeta do not stop after graduation." After receiving his certified financial planner designation in 2013, Evan has been helping individuals and small businesses achieve their financial goals. He believes that Delt values tie closely with his ethics as a financial planner, especially when it comes to integrity. You can connect with Evan at evanwerckenthien@ gmail.com. EVAN WERCKENTHIEN '12 VALUES LEADERSHIP SKILLS LEARNED AS AN UNDERGRADUATE "BEING IN THE BETA ZETA BROTHERHOOD PLAYED AN INTEGRAL PART IN DEFINING WHO I AM TODAY AND WHO I STILL AIM TO BECOME."
