''I don't know if it was the number or not, but I might give it another chance. We'll see.'' Donaldson had one hit in his first 20 spring training at-bats coming in. He's trying to win the starting job at third base after ending last season there. ''Toward the end of the year last year, I felt really comfortable over their at third,'' he said, ''and coming into this spring I felt way better than obviously I did last year at the beginning of the spring. I've been able to get into a better routine as far as what I need to do and get ready for the game and get ready for the season.'' Donaldson is a converted catcher who had minimal experience at third before last season. He made the 2012 opening-day roster but was sent down to Triple-A Sacramento three weeks into the season due to offensive struggles. It took until August before he settled in at third. All told, he started 71 games and committed 12 errors. He also hit .294 in the AL division series. ''This is all just a process,'' he said. ''It's one game but the good to take away from it is I felt like I stayed within myself, got a couple of good pitches to hit and when I got a good pitch to hit, I got it good.'' SPRING TRAINING | Dodgers 4, Giants 0, 2 innings Zito gives up 3 in 1 inning as rain, hail stops game CSNB NHL Milwaukee PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Josh Donaldson arrived with his Oakland Athletics teammates for Friday's spring training game against the Seattle Mariners with his equipment bag but not his customary No. 20 jersey. Furnished with a temporary top with No. 98, Donaldson broke out of an 0-for-15 slump with a pair of long home runs as Oakland's game against Seattle was rained out in the top of the fourth inning with the Athletics ahead 12-1 Friday. ''The last couple of days I've been working on a couple of things in the cage, and the biggest thing for me is just getting comfortable in the box,'' Donaldson said. ''I was able to get pretty comfortable and get a couple of good pitches to hit.'' Donaldson hit a tworun homer and a solo shot. Seth Smith and Michael Choice also hit two-run homers for the A's, and Shane Peterson had a solo drive. None of the stats count because the game wasn't official. ''Everybody had good at-bats, certainly Donaldson,'' Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. ''I don't care if the wind was blowing in or out. They were going out anyway.'' Donaldson was asked whether he'll keep the No. 98. (AP) — Los Angeles left-hander Ted Lilly would have liked to pitch to defending NL MVP Buster Posey. The weather just would not cooperate Friday. Once the hail came down in earnest, Posey didn't even wait for the umpires, he walked out of the batter's box. ''Those are the things you need,'' Lilly said after recording two outs before heavy rain and hail ended the proceedings. ''I wanted to pitch to Posey with a guy on second, when you need to make a quality pitch to a good hitter.'' The game was stopped in the bottom of the second with Los Angeles up 4-0. Lilly, who said he's completely over his shoulder problems, thought he might pitch again in four days. Lilly's season ended last May due to left shoulder inflammation. ''I'm not even thinking that way,'' Lilly said. ''I'm trying to get myself in the best pitching condition possible so that I can pitch the way I am capable.'' Matt Kemp is also recovering from shoulder injury and says he has no issues. ''I just have to go out there and let it go,'' Kemp said. ''It's like any normal spring training. It was my eighth at bat. I need to see pitches and find my rhythm. I have 24 days to find my rhythm and even if I don't have it by Opening Day, I know I will find it way before the season is over.'' Because he did not reach 30 pitches, he was eligible to pitch again Friday. ''If you're going to go that way, you're better off throwing four more pitches,'' Bochy said. ''The rules are established to protect these pitchers. You can't blame Mexico because they will be fighting for their lives and they want to win.'' Romo clearly labored in his one inning stint, going to a full count three times and giving up the go-ahead runs. ''Hopefully you trust them to be honest,'' Bochy said. ''It's a little frustrating when you don't know if they are 100 percent honest. That's why we checked in with him. We have a guy's career here. He has to understand he has some responsibility here.'' Giants starter Barry Zito gave up three runs on four hits in his one inning of work against the Dodgers. All the runs scored with two outs. ''My timing was off a little bit,'' Zito said. ''I was just missing out over the plate a little bit on most of those hits. It was all kind of small misses and not a lot of huge misses. They capitalized; they were swinging the bat aggressively.'' • 1:30 p.m. FSN — Arizona St. at Arizona • 2:30 p.m. NBCSN — Cornell at Harvard • 3 p.m. ESPN — Kansas at Baylor • 4 p.m. ESPN2 — Ohio Valley Conference, championship, teams TBD, at Nashville, Tenn. • 6 p.m. ESPN — Duke at North Carolina ESPN2 — West Coast Conference, semifinal, Gonzaga vs. Santa Clara-Loyola Marymount winner, at Las Vegas • 8 p.m. ESPN2 — West Coast Conference, semifinal, Saint Mary's (Cal) vs. BYU-San Diego winner, at Las Vegas MOTORSPORTS • 4:30 p.m. SPEED — Supercross, at Daytona Beach, Fla. The Lady Warriors jumped to a 4-2 lead after the first inning and added four more as freshmen Tasha Pimentel, Gillian Coelho and Cheyanne Johnson and senior Maddy Coelho all drew walks and then scored on wild pitches. Warriors junior pitcher Jessica Curl, who struck out eight and allowed seven hits on the day, singled to center and was driven in by Michelle Jaramillo. In the fifth and sixth innings, Greenville took advantage of a defensive slump and scored five runs in each before Mercy rallied for the win. First-year coaches Michelle Ashurst and Anne Coelho said they are proud of their young team, which has just two returning players from previous seasons.
