8A Daily News Wednesday, February 13, 2013 Boxing and wrestling and cage fighting, oh my! As I am boxing now, I need to be listed in major boxing networks in order to get my name out there to get fights. One of the biggest is WBAN- Women's Boxing Archive Networkowned by former world champ, Sue "TL" Fox. I contacted her to get her to list me, and she honored me by asking for a bio to do a piece on me. It took me quite a bit to come up with it, but I was able to sum up my career and do a lot of reminiscing. For those of you who don't know why I do what I do, I figured my submission might be of interest, so here you go: I've always loved boxing- used to spar with my older brothers all the time. They would beat the crud out of me. I got used to losing until one day a neighbor boy my age put the gloves on with me. I bloodied him up a bit and immediately fell in love with the sport. When I was 18, I joined the local boxing gym and got some real training. What sucked was there was no amateur boxing for females at the time, so I couldn't get a fight. Out of frustration, I joined the men's wrestling team at Chico State. I had 11 matchesall were against men except one. It was fun, but not the same as boxing. I started boxing again in 1993 for Dan Verdugo. There was still no amateur boxing for females despite my pleas. Dan convinced me to try kickboxing to get in the ring at least. I did, and would always get the minimum number of kicks required and then just ended up boxing. I ended up winning the IKF Bantamweight title before I retired from kickboxing. Finally, amateur boxing for females was legalized, so I jumped into the boxing ring with both feet. I had a few fights, all wins, until some injuries took me out of fighting for what I thought was forever. While I was busy not fighting, I decided to get in touch with my Eskimo heritage and compete in the World Eskimo Indian Olympics in 2000. I trained hard- but had no idea what I was getting myself into. I still got 2 silver medalsone in the Eskimo Stick pull and one in the 4 man carry. I had some corrective surgery and was feeling all better when I went to watch a cage fight with my husband. I saw a local boy, Leland, that I knew fight his heart outhe threw punches, kicks, took the guy down, tried to choke him out... It was an exciting fight, but he lost. I was so charged up after watching, I told my husband I had to try that out. He was dead set against itworried that I would reinjure myself. I begged, pleaded, threatened... until he relented and said 'Whatever!". So, I fought my first cage fight in 2007 against one of Ken Shamrock's girls. It was wild! I came out punching like crazy! We were all over that cage, and I was throwing more leather to her take down attempts. In the end, my hand was raised as the winner. The crowd went nuts! After the fight, the girl's husband told me that they turned it to a draw. I don't think I believed him, but sure as hell, it was listed as a draw- no matter how much I tried to get it turned back into a win. It left a sour taste in my mouth for the politics of the sport, but I plugged along and had 11 promma fights. One of them that I won was reversed to a no contest Thanks to our 2013 Sponsors Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale & the Red Bluff Buckin Best after the fact. The last Guadalupe Guiterrez.
