SECRET WITNESS 529-1268 A program of Tehama County Neighborhood Watch Program, Inc. Setting it straight A headline on Tuesday’s front page contained a typo. It should have read “Rec head to move on.” An item in Tuesday’s paper about the California Heat chorus contained an error. The group’s next performance will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Vista Middle School during Relay For Life. An item in Friday’s edition on page 2A omitted Bow- man Community Church from a list of groups recog- nized for six or more blood drives in 2009. The Daily News regrets the errors. –––––––– It is the policy of the Daily News to correct as quick- ly as possible all errors in fact that have been published in the newspaper. If you feel a factual error has been made in a news story, call the news department at 527-2153. Each of us has a history that is rich in lessons learned and experi- ences had. Each of us has a mess that can be transformed into a mes- sage and a misery that can become a ministry. Tell your story. Often times people are afraid to share parts of their past or their lives because they feel ashamed, embarrassed or certain they will be judged. All of that is a possibility, but it is equally possible that you may reach someone somewhere who needs to hear what you have to say. One of the biggest challenges in teaching others is developing the credibility to speak on a subject. Sometimes our challenges give us the street cred we need to be relat- able. I am not saying that you have to bare your soul for the collective like I do. Trust me, I get more than my share of ridicule for doing this col- umn, which has always amazed me as my message is about how you can be, do and have anything you desire. I want to encourage you to tell your story for the people in your life that will be here after you are gone. Think about what lessons you have learned and what obstacles you can help others avoid by shar- ing your story. I hope to have a story colorful enough that my great-grandkids will see past my wrinkles and old- ness to realize I was pretty cool in my day. I hope that I can help others awaken to their potential through sharing my enthusiasm about success. There are so many ways to get your story out there. You can blog, write a book or a journal, make a video diary, organize pictures of your life or tell a different story over Sunday dinner. Putting the information in a permanent format is use- ful for the generations that you will leave. I imagine my kids coming across my journals one day and blushing and gushing about the things they never knew were on my mind; things that mattered to me or that worried me. How much I loved them and when they made me cringe. If you have been watching the hit show: Who Do You Think You Are, you’ve seen that people enjoy knowing where they come from.
