4A – Daily News – Thursday, May 6, 2010 Pastimes Tehama on Tap Older Americans Month In honor of older Americans, Out of the Woods Art Stu- dio presents a free Age Strong, Living Long workshop for community members age 60 and older from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 13. Senior students will create reflective art, through imagery and words, using watercolor and various art mate- rials for sharing their thoughts, experiences and wisdom to be shared with a younger generation. Art will be on display at the studio from 12:30 to 2 p.m with refreshments for participants, family and friends. The workshop will be filled on a first come, first serves basis and is limited to 8 students. To register call 527-7164. This workshop has been partially funded through a grant from Tehama County Arts Council, through the California Arts Council. Arts Council offerings The Tehama County Arts Council newsletter offers the following opportunities: • Square Dancing Club, which is for experienced dancers, meets every Thursday starting today at the Red Bluff Community and Senior Center, 1500 S. Jackson St. For information or to find a beginners class call 529-1615. • First Friday Art Night will be 5-8 p.m. on Friday. The following locations participate monthly: Big Picture Gallery, 857 Washington St. 5-7 p.m.; Heartfelt Design, 623 Main St.; Montana Morrison Gallery, 625 Walnut St.; Red Bluff Art Gallery, 601Walnut St. • Julie’s Piano for Fun Piano Studio will be holding a recital at 7 p.m. Fridayat Community Baptist Church, 598 Roundup Avenue in Red Bluff. Admission is free. Two shows opening The Montana Morrison Art Gallery will have two shows opening Friday — "Landscapes," a look at the world through the artists eyes, and a show featuring the work of students from Red Bluff Union High School. Art instructor Wes Hendricks encourages his students to work in many different media including photography, ceramics, drawing and painting. An artists reception for both shows will be held 5-8 p.m. at the Gallery, 625 Walnut St. There is no charge to attend. Both shows will run through May 29. Information, call 529-3347. Courtesy photo The Kiwanis Club of Red Bluff will present an Antsy McClain & The Trailer Park Troubadours benefit concert to kickoff the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. The event will start at 6 p.m. Friday, May 14, with a barbecue at the Red Bluff Community and Senior Center, 1500 S. Jackson St., followed by the concert at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30, include dinner and the show and are available at The Copy Center, Act II, Sky River Music and The Big Picture. Symphony ends season bold and beautiful The final concerts of the North State Sympho- ny’s 2009-2010 season, "The Bold and the Beauti- ful," will take place May 15-16 in Red Bluff, Chico and Redding. A world- famous clarinetist is fea- tured as the orchestra plays music as old as the 18th century and as new as the 21st. Jon Manasse, New York—based clarinet vir- tuoso, will play the Con- certo for Clarinet by Lowell Liebermann, a living American compos- er. This is the California premiere of the concerto, which was first played in Ohio in 2009 and has been touring the country with Manasse presenting the work with orchestras from the East Coast to Alaska. Manasse is one of the country’s leading classi- cal clarinet players. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, toured Europe and Asia and recorded numerous works.
