FRANCES FLACK PHILLIPS Mrs. Frances Flack Phillips, formerly of Shelby, NC, age 93, passed away on June 12, 2018. Frances was born on February 28, 1925 in Rutherford County to the late John Flack and Melinda Koon Flack. She was pre- ceded in death by her hus- band, Hugh Phillips; and five brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her son, John Thomas Phillips of Sevierville, TN; two daughters, Jackie Poston of Hendersonville and Susan Byers and hus- band, Tom of Fayetteville; two sisters Thalia Shook and Martha Lovelace and one brother Kolen Flack all of Union Mills; and five grand- children and thirteen great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held at the home of Tom and Susan Byers, Fayetteville. Burial was at Cleveland Memorial Park. LEWIS JENKINS Mr. Lewis Jenkins, age 81, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on June 13, 2018. Born in Gaston County, NC, he was the son of the late Roby Jonas Jenkins and Shirley Stewart Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gay Jenkins; sisters, Dorothy McGill and Colleen Birchfield; and a brother, Ronald Jenkins Sr. He is survived by his chil- dren, Denise Blackmon (Roy) of Shelby NC, Mark Jenkins of Kings Mountain, NC, Kevin Jenkins (Janet) of Kings Mountain, NC; Bryan Jenkins (Gail) of Kings Mountain, NC, Karen Lemley (Kenneth) of Kings Mountain, NC, Katherine Jenkins of Kings Mountain, NC; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sis- ters, Mary Frances Vernon (Bobby) of Kings Mountain, NC and Diane Jenkins (Nan) of Winston Salem, NC; and brother, Cecil Jenkins (Ruth) of Rapid City, SD. JETTA ANN SMAWLEY Mrs. Jetta Ann Smawley, age 90, of Ellenboro, NC, passed away on June 14, 2018. Born November 30, 1927 in Sharp County, AR, she was the daugh- ter of the late Jay Dean Chandless and Minnie Lewis Chandless. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Staatz. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ronald Smawley and wife, Barbara of Ellenboro; daugh- ter, Brenda Lawson and husband, Tom of Ellenboro and a lifelong friend, Shirley Parris of Ellenboro; and two grandsons and two great grandsons. BETTY THOMAS MCCARTHY Mrs. Betty Thomas McCarthy, age 97, passed away on June 6, 2018. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Subrizi (Paris) and Karen Gstundtner; CONNIE B. THOMAS Mrs. Connie B. Thomas, age 44, of Forest City, passed away June 9, 2018. She was the daughter of Roy Palmer Bumgarner who resides in Casar, NC and of the late Mary Catherine Smith Bumgarner. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jeffery Dale Bumgarner and father-in-law, Kenneth Eugene Thomas. Besides her father, those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Kenny Thomas; son, Joshua Ryan Thomas (Kimberly Wallace) of Casar; daughter, Hannah Marie Thomas of the home; brother, Christopher Gene Thomas of Casar and mother- in-law, Gail Thomas of Forest City. She is also survived by two grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Lee's Chapel Cemetery in Casar. He was the son of the late George Turner and Georgia Bryte Beam Cabaniss. She was born in Saskatchewan, Canada; later raised and educated in Clearwater, Florida. A funeral mass was held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Simpsonville, SC.
