Quartzsite's Marie Wister felt that "it would be disastrous and a dis- service to our vast volunteer base or others that could not make the trip, so I've volunteered to teach the class to all who needs to be re-certifi ed or obtain a food handler card." The cost will remain the same as the $15.00 per paid employee and Free for all those who need the Volunteer Card. Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser for Celia's Rainbow Gardens All the monies raised will be used to buy materials for the monuments that will be added to the Heroes Bell Gardens area. Last year was the dedication of the bells in this area, and this Sept. 11th another great remembrance ceremony was held. Members of some of the fi rst re- sponders who will have monuments honoring them put in this area at- tended, as well as Quartzsite mayor and council members, members of the Park Board, VFW and Auxiliary and riders. Many individuals came out to honor the men and women whose jobs or careers put their lives at risk on a daily basis. The monuments are hoped to be built over this winter so the land- scaping can be put in before next summer when it will be too hot to do anything out there but water the plants and trees. Volunteers are badly needed to help with all as- pects of this project in the Gardens to honor our heroes who have lost their lives as well as those who still work hard every day for our safety well being and freedoms. We need people who can dig, do some mortar work to make the bases out of ce- ment block and mortar rocks onto base, rake out areas to be planted, plant trees, bushes, and cacti, set poles into place for fl ags, and lots of landscaping and setting up benches etc. If you have any materials that you don't want any more like ce- ment block, patio stones, mortar mix, rebar, or any cacti etc. please bring out to the Gardens during the work sessions. We will be having several work ses- sions during the winter to get this work done, and several fundraisers with the different honored groups to raise funds for the plaques and additions to the monuments. Dates for the work sessions will be in next Desert Messenger, and will be post- ed as well. A picnic lunch will be pro- vided for every work session. If you have even an hour or more that you can give us to help get these monu- ments worked on, please come to the work sessions or call Joanne Winer at 928-927-6551 if you would like to help.
