It will be held on the plaza in front of Kings Mountain City Hall at noon on Friday. October 6th • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM The Gateway Festival Downtown Kings Mountain This annual Kings Mountain fall festival is celebrated all across town. From the Gazebo, the Historical Muse- um and Commons area, the Library and the Southern Arts Depot, a free shuttle will carry you to all the loca- tions, continuously throughout the day. There will also be a Classic Car Show, Cute Critters Competition, a Lineman's Rodeo and a variety of music including Blue- grass, Celtic, Folk, Old Time Gospel and Americana music. Re-enactors depicting life during the Revolution- ary War years will share living history through demon- strations and invite everyone to visit the encampment at Patriots Park. October 31st • 10:00 AM Great Pumpkin Halloween Parade City Hall Bring your camera and join in our Halloween parade through town to the "Gazeboo" at Patriots Park with all the ghosts, goblins and super heroes from all the area daycare centers and schools. There will be stories, games and the search for the Gold Pumpkin and for special prizes hidden in the haystacks. November 12th • 10:30 AM Veterans Day Parade and Observance War Memorial to Veteran's Memorial The Veteran's Day Parade, featuring the Loch Norman Pipe Band, will start by the War Memorial (across from the Joy Performance Center) and continue through town to the Veteran's Memorial at Mountain Rest Cemetery. All veterans and their families are encouraged to partici- pate in this tribute to the Armed Forces and the sacrifi c- es they made for America. November 20th • 7:00 PM Childrens Christmas Tree Lighting Mauney Memorial Library Children and their families will gather at Mauney Memo- rial Library for Christmas activities and stories prior to the tree lighting and the arrival of Santa Claus in a fi re truck. There will be an opportunity for the children to visit with Santa. December 1st • 3:00 PM Annual Christmas Parade Downtown Kings Mountain What's Christmas without a parade? As part of the "Home for Christmas - Kings Mountain" month long event, this parade will have over 150 entries of all types from small fl oats to large ones, from fi re trucks to go- carts and beauty queens to classic cars. There will be something for everyone to enjoy. Patriot Day! The City of Kings Mountain will observe Patriot Day on Tuesday, September 11. This solemn anniversary is an annu- al commemorative service for those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. "This was a very dark day for Americans and the world", stated Rick Murphrey, Mayor of Kings Mountain. "We will never forget the attack on so many innocent people" Murphrey continued, "and we honor those whose lives were lost and stand proud of our service men and women who con- tinue, to this day, to defend and fight for the freedom we have here in America." The observance will be held on the plaza in front of Kings Mountain City Hall, 101 West Gold Street at 12 Noon. Participants will include the presentation of colors by the Kings Mountain Police Honor Guard, an invocation by Police Chief Melvin Proctor, Pledge of Allegiance by Fire Chief Frank Burns and the National Anthem by Shana Adams.
