The dates are Saturday, September 8 and Saturday, September 15. The event will begin each day at 7:30 PM. The Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue will again handle the concessions and parking. There is no charge for parking but donations may be made if desired. It will be the "battle of the churches." Area church- es may compete in the event without an entry fee but the driver must be a member of the church and never driven in a demolition derby. First prize pays $500 and second prize is $300. There are already some early entries. The Bar H Arena hopes to grow this class each year. This class will be held during the September 15 event only. A "powder puff" class is scheduled during the September 8 event. It will also offer an old iron class, a 1978 and up class. The September 15 event will schedule the "battle of the churches" a mid size car derby, old iron and 1978 and above class. South Mountains State Park Listen to will host the 10th Annual Nature Day on September 29th from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. A variety of programs, exhibits and music will be presented throughout the day. Music is scheduled at the park picnic pavilion from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. Mick Bridwell and the Carolina Crawdads will start at 11:00 with sounds of bluegrass. Richard Beard and Sassafras Tea will follow with Southern Appalachian music. Tim and Faith Ingle and the "Heartstrings" musicians will inspire you with sounds of bluegrass gospel music. Fox and his Possum Holler Ole Time String Band will put a smile on your face and music in your heart. Michael The popular Build a Bird House Program will be held at the old park offi cer. Eighty bird- houses will be assembled and given away to bird enthusiasts. Bat and bird houses will also be given away as door prizes at the end of the day. Exhibits will be displayed at the Jacob Fork Parking Area. Exhibits include the USDA Wild- life Exhibit, Tuttle State Educational Forest, What's in the Water, Beekeeping, the Snakes of North Carolina, Backpacking & Dutch Oven Cooking, Rocky River Trout Unlimited, Bats, Grandfather Mountain Climate Science, Astronomy, Turtles, The Spider Shack, Friends of South Mountains State Park, Flint Knapping, and Trails- Pathways to Nature. Children's activities are scheduled through the day. The Nature Day Obstacle Course, Making Animal Tracks, Nature Arts & Crafts will entertain and educate the little people. Free horse and wagon rides will also be available "round the barn." Food and beverages will be available for purchase from South Mountains Volunteer Fire Department. Door prizes will be given away at 4:00 at the picnic pavilion. South Mountains State Park welcomes the community to join us for this informative and fun day. Admission is free.
