North Carolina is well known for its contribution to the violin through its rich history in Old Time fi ddle music. Tommy Jarrell from Mt. Airy, NC (also home of Andy Griffi th) greatly affected and infl uenced genres like country and bluegrass with his unique approach to the violin and its bowing. Popularizing 'shuffl e' techniques, Tommy Jarrell innovated the sound of the 'fi ddle' by incorporating rhythms inspired by folk dances and hoedowns.
