Ontheair "Iwasn'trealhappywith our defense and rebound- ing in the second half," said Corning coach Kurt Wilkins. "We didn't move the ball real well, but it's nice to be able to win when you're not at your best, es- pecially in the playoffs." The Cards offense con- tinued to fire on all cylin- ders in the third to post 20 and finish the period with a 45-31 lead. Frustration started to set in for the Huskies in the final period and a number of fouls were called, includ- ing a technical and a pair of intentional fouls, on Sut- ter. "When games go that way, our phrase, win or lose you act like champions," Wilkins said. "We play with class and we're not going to play that game." Down the stretch Tapia scored with a bucket to open the final period for the Cards, but all of their scoring would be from the foul line until the final shot from Mikey Rodriquez to close out the game. Mishoe led the Cards with 20 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists; Hoag had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists; Busta had 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists; Zoppi had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists; Tapia had 5 points, 4 re- bounds and 7 assists; Ro- driquez had 2 points and a rebound; Brian Coffey had a point and 2 rebounds and Tyler Grine had a point, a rebound and 3 assists. Tucker Berens had 6 re- bounds. With the win the Cardi- nals advance to the semifi- nals Wednesday night. "We've got to play bet- ter defense and we need to move the ball better and be more precise to beat either West Valley or Anderson," Wilkins said. "Hopefully we shoot better." The Cardinals will host the West Valley Eagles at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Ea- gles beat the Anderson Cubs 61-42 Friday. The Cards and Eagles didn't face each other this season, but Corning beat West Valley twice in 2016, 58-51 on Jan. 13 and 72-67 in overtime on Feb. 5. Spartans42,Shasta 62 REDDING The Red Bluff Spartans finished their sea- son Friday night with a 62- 42 loss to the No. 2 Shasta Wolves on the road. Tye Clement led the Spartans with 10 points, Derek Gordon had 7, Brayden Hutchins and Evan Tanner had 6 each, Erick Spencer had 5, Jason Barrow had 4 and Dawson Voth and Payton Edwards each had 2. The Spartans finish the year 8-17 overall, 1-9 league. Bulldogs at Fall River MCARTHER The No. 5 seed Los Molinos Bulldogs are scheduled to take on the No. 1 seed Fall River Bull- dogs in McArther at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Division 6 semifinal round. Los Molinos is 19-8 on the year and 4-4 league and lost to Fall River 89- 41 in tournament play Dec. 29 in Palo Cedro. Fall River is 25-1 overall, 9-1 league with its only loss coming against Division 5 No. 2 seed Mt. Shasta, 76- 67, on Jan. 31. Fall River High School is at 44215 Walnut St. in McArthur. Lady Bulldogs 43, Redding Christian 57 REDDING The Los Moli- nos Lady Bulldogs finished their season Friday night on the road with a loss to the No. 3 Redding Chris- tian Lions 57-43. The Bulldogs kept it close through the first three periods, though they trailed at the end of each period. But they struggled to score in the fourth, only putting up 2, for the loss. The Bulldogs finish the year 16-8 overall, 5-3 in league play. Basketball FROM PAGE 1 career, totally, coming up," Healy said. "I have no problem doing that and I have experience doing that. I may be new at the big league level, but it's something I can look back on and use my experience in the minor league level. If I'm DHing and we're winning, I'll be a happy camper." Joyce has already left an impression on Healy as a veteran dispensing wisdom to a relative newcomer. "I can't even talk to that guy," Healy said with a grin. "He talks about try- ing to put the barrel on the ball, and hits two homers. But really, good for him. He's a real quality player. I'm enjoying having him in the clubhouse as a team- mate so far." • The Giants know that Johnny Cueto can opt out of his contract after this season. But for now, the question continues to be when he'll opt in. Cueto is still in the Do- minican Republic while tending to his 71-year-old father, whose health chal- lenges have improved to the point where he can travel but was awaiting fi- nal documentation. Giants GM Bobby Evans said Monday he received indications that the visa and passport issues were close to being resolved, and that Cueto would be in Scottsdale sometime during the middle of this week. Of course, Evans had the same indications a few days earlier, when the club believed that Cueto would arrive over the past week- end. This much is clear: the Giants would not be cool with Cueto going straight to Miami to join the Do- minican Republic team for the World Baseball Classic. Cueto was supposed to re- port to the Giants on Feb. 13 and train with them be- fore leaving March 6 for the WBC. Cueto has not given the Dominican team a final answer about his partic- ipation, even though GM Moises Alou is pushing for an answer. "I know he commented that there are some con- cerns or challenges," Ev- ans said. "I think that's still pending." Spring FROM PAGE 1 Green finished the night with 14 points — his first time in double-digits in the past seven games — plus 11 assists, six rebounds and five steals. The Warriors outscored the Sixers by 22 points in his 37 minutes. Green capped the win with a corner 3 in the fourth quarter, one of the six the Warriors actually made, and then a drive and dunk to put the Warriors up 108- 97 with four minutes left. But this wasn't a win dominated by a singu- lar Warrior star. Plenty of other chipped into the old school effort. Zaza Pachu- lia and David West, both in their third game back from injuries, were particularly impactful. Pachulia scored a sea- son-high 16 points in his 15 minutes, completely out- playing former third over- all pick Jahlil Okafor. Pa- chulia scored on Okafor with a series of surprise drives and then stoned Okafor on the other end. And when it wasn't Pah- culia terrorizing Okafor, it was West. After an up- and-down first quarter, West stabilized things to start the second quarter, stripping a couple drives, taking a charge and work- ing his way to the free throw line. The Warriors outscored the Sixers by nine in West's first four minutes.
