FIJI Jayhawker 4 T he recently reconstituted BCA has estab- lished goals, objectives, tactics, and mea- surements for the Pi Deuteron Chapter. Below is an outline of these standards. Structure For the remainder of 2016, Patrick Haverty '10 will wear two hats: Purple Legionnaire and BCA President. Beginning after winter break in early 2017, Patrick will decide whether or not to con- tinue in both positions. If not, BCA will decide how to restructure the Purple Legionnaire and the BCA President roles separately. The BCA does not, and will not, make policy decisions. That is the job of the Undergraduate Brothers and the House Corporation. Instead, the BCA will answer questions from the Undergradu- ate Brothers as they decide how to manage the Chapter. The House Corporation is the landlord and, there- fore, works with the Undergraduates to maintain the physical structure and assist in protecting and improving the Fiji brand at KU. The BCA, work- ing effectively with both the Undergraduates and the House Corporation, will positively improve the brands by overseeing the quality of decision making by both entities. Goals BCA's goals are to council and coach the Chap- ter to (a) achieve the status as the best, most re- spected Fraternity at the University of Kansas, and (b) finish in the top three in competition for the Cheney Cup. Objectives The BCA will council and coach the Chapter. Undergraduates, supported and encouraged by BCA, have the following objectives: n Achieve a Chapter GPA that ranks in the top five fraternities at KU. n Organize so that one designated member of the BCA is liaison with a specific Undergraduate cabinet member or committee chairman. n Communicate when necessary with House Corporation on matters dealing with (a) the con- dition of the house, (b) strengthening the Fiji brand, and (c) adherence to the Phi Gamma Del- ta Risk Management Policy. Tactics Tactics to employ to meet stated objectives and goals are: n BCA to interface twice per month, once in person and once by telephone, for approximately one hour alone and for two hours together with the Undergraduate cabinet. Tuffy Mayor '66 and Patrick will jointly create the agenda for each of these meetings. n Recruitment: BCA's Patrick and Chris Bo- hannon '15 meet for one hour twice per month, either by telephone or in person, with Under- graduate Recruitment Chairmen Danny Finley '19, Jack Mikesell '19, and Spencer Deason '19, then document the meeting's highlights in a short report to the BCA team, Erich Lanz '17 and Tuffy. n Scholarship: BCA's Matt Moore '13 to meet one half hour twice per month with Dan- iel Ericson '19 and Andrew Doppart '19 and document the meeting in a short report to BCA, Erich, and Tuffy. n Graduate Relations: BCA's Dylan Mayor '98, Grant Kollman '10, and Rusty Gallagher '10 to meet one half hour twice per month with Matt Johnson '18 and document highlights in a short report to BCA, Erich, and Tuffy. n Social: BCA's Stephen Jones '98 and John Kennyhertz '01 to meet one hour twice per month, either by telephone or in person, with Jake Lueck '17 and Tyler Soecaert '19, to de- velop more events that involve both Graduates and Undergraduates. n Tuffy to meet twice per month with Erich and Philip Baxter '19 to advance social media and newsletter, in support of Might Proud phase two. Tuffy will summarize highlights in a short report to BCA, Erich, and Mighty Proud leader- ship. In general, BCA members are also avail- able to coach Undergraduates on pledge educa- tion. Also, the ongoing Slice of Fiji on Sunday nights and Fiji Academy also will be supported by BCA members. Finally, when BCA members can help with intramural sports, they will happily do so. Measurements For the remainder of 2016, BCA, Erich Lanz, Undergraduate leaders, and Tuffy will become knowledgeable of Phi Gam's developing Chap- ter Performance Indicators (CPI). Then, begin- ning after winter break in early 2017, these CPIs will become measurement tools, employed to audit progress against goals and objectives. Pi Deuteron may invite an expert from National to meet and assist with this effort. At the end of the second semester in May 2017, if not before, the BCA will update this document in preparation for the fall 2017 semester. Cup Competitions Erich and his teammates will submit reports that position Pi Deuteron to win various competitions inside Phi Gamma Delta. BCA and other experi- enced Graduate Brothers will coach the Under- graduate Brothers on this challenge. BCA Sets Standards for the Year Ad Astra We are sorry to report the death of these Graduate Brothers, who will be dearly missed. Vincent M. Tharp '42 d. March 29, 2016 Dwight H. Thompson Jr. '49 d.
