"Not for College Days Alone" PI DEUTERON CHAPTER OF PHI GAMMA DELTA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • FALL 2016 HOUSE CORPORATION URGES ALL ALUMNI TO SUPPORT MIGHTY PROUD CAMPAIGN T he Mighty Proud capital campaign phase two is off the ground and headed for success. All of the funds to complete necessary house im- provements and, thereby, create a living environment that will sustain the Chapter for years to come must come from this campaign. Success with Mighty Proud phase two is crucial! Second- and third-floor bathrooms were upgraded this summer. Im- proved exhaust of steam generated in the showers of these bathrooms will eliminate the formation of mold and create a healthier environment for the Undergraduates. Thanks partly to a contribution from the Moth- er's Club, both stairwells are now tiled and painted, and they look great. The house was thoroughly cleaned and the hallway walls were painted. Furthermore, the beautiful outdoor patio has been furnished, a great ad- dition for Stag Pig on October 21. Attention now shifts to the remaining structural improvements. Our HVAC is old and inefficient, as are the windows. These are most significant im- provements that need to be accomplished for a Mighty Proud finish. A top-flight group of 33 young men join 45 active members in a quest to improve GPA and achieve more prominence on The Hill. The Phi Gam and Fiji brands are as strong as they've been in a long time. And the foundation is in place for significant improvements in 2016-17. Thanks to all of our Graduate Brothers who gave generously to Mighty Proud phase one. Let's finish the job and raise the remaining $1 million in Mighty Proud phase two. See you at The Pig. Fraternally, Tuffy Mayor '66 House Corporation President tuffy@mayoriiiproperties.com Perge! New furniture is in place on Pi Deuteron's patio. Many renovations were completed at the Chapter House this summer. Your gift today allows us the ability to continue updating our facility for the next generation of Fiji men. (Continued on page 3) Jack Clevenger '68 Provides for the Future of Pi Deuteron J ack Clevenger '68 followed in his broth- er's footsteps, which led straight to Phi Gamma Delta. His older brother, Tom '57, encouraged him to join and helped Jack be- come acclimated with the Chapter as an Un- dergraduate. During his years at KU, Jack made strong friendships that have held true today and hopes to pass along the tradition of Brotherhood to future generations of Fijis. "Class bonding was great," Jack said. "I recall the old Phi Gam priori- tized fun and athletics over academics (in that order). It's so great to see today the priorities have changed, and rightfully so. The Chapter is still fun, of course, but there's more attention paid to academics. Even things like Rock Chalk Revue, which we didn't think twice about in my day. The guys are doing a terrific job and keep the fun level high while also keeping what's really important at the forefront." Brotherhood was a large factor in Jack's decision to give back to the campaign. Several pledge brothers have passed away in recent years, Visit kufiji.org and click "Donate Now" to make a gift to the Mighty Proud campaign.
