Se ni or s, s pe ci al people celebrated By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews. com @DN_Heather on Twitter REDBLUFF The 2nd annual Maker Showcase at the Te- hama District Fair provides a variety of fun activities and demonstrations and on Friday children of all ages were welcomed to come by to the craft table to create their own noise-maker in- struments. Los Molinos High School sophomore Darian VerHaar and senior Sarah Grayson said they enjoyed participat- ing in the craft event. VerHaar said the noise maker instruments were fun to make and it was cool that everyday items from around the house can be used to make the instru- ments. She plans to use her rainbowed-colored noise maker at school rallies and functions. The program was put on by Makerspace with Renee Davis, director of the Te- hamaCountyDepartmentof Education State Pre-School Program, andothershosting the event and helping to cre- ate the instruments for the children. Davis used plates folded in half and stapled along the outer circle. From there the participants placed beans or rice in the inside of the plate and sealed it. Its something unique for the children to do with items that can be found any- where, Davis said. Michelle Carlson, with Makerspace and Future De- velopment Group, said she was excited to be a part of the Maker Showcase. "The team did an out- standing job of taking the crowd favorites from last year and adding to them, for an even more spectacu- lar event this year," Carlson said. "A huge thanks to Sy- erra Eickmeyer and Ericka Navarrete at the Tehama County Department of Ed- ucation and Scott Chandler and Michelle Hickok from Rolling Hills for all of the work they've done to coordi- nate and facilitate this suc- cessful event."
