CUMBERLAND co.cumberland.nc.us Youth Can Apply For County Government Tour Cumberland County Workforce Development held its Second Annual Recognition Luncheon June 8. Award categories and recipients are: Outstanding Younger Youth – Jonica Banks Outstanding Young Adult – Tyesha Hickmon, Tiffany Murphy and Calvin Womack Outstanding Dislocated Worker – Christopher Smith Outstanding Adult – Eunice Franklin, Patrick Smith and Michael Weatherly Outstanding Employer – Veterans Flooring Group Inc. Outstanding Partnership – Transition Tech Program (Fayetteville Technical Community College, Fort Bragg Training and Education Center and Cumberland County NCWorks Career Center) The Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District will be taking pre-paid orders for its annual tree seedling sale beginning July 1 through Aug. 31. Three evergreen species native to North Carolina are available: Longleaf Pine, Loblolly Pine and Eastern Red Cedar. Seedling prices are: • Longleaf Pine: $5 per bundle of 15 seedlings • Loblolly Pine: $5 per bundle of 20 seedlings • Eastern Red Cedar: $5 per bundle of 5 seedlings. Order forms are available on the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District website at co.cumberland.nc.us/ soil_water/. Click on the link under the "Events" tab. Anyone interested in ordering seedlings must complete the order form and return it with payment by Aug. 31. The seedlings will be delivered the second week of December. Workforce Development Honors Clients, Partners Cumberland County Cooperative Extension invites youth ages 13-17 to participate in the Youth Government Tour July 25-29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The academy is sponsored by Cumberland County 4-H Youth Development. The Youth Government Tour is an opportunity to visit county departments and receive an overview of county government, including meeting with county commissioners at the Courthouse, visits to the Sheriff 's Training Center, the Animal Control Shelter, Cumberland County Public Library, Health Department and Department of Social Services. There is no cost to participate in the Youth Government Tour. The application is available at cumberland.ces.ncsu.edu/ categories/4-h-youth-development.
