PPYRUTHERFORD CO EMPLOYMENT EMPLOYMENT Terry Wayne McKenzie, a Vietnam Veteran, under the care of Hospice Cleveland County, was recently awarded his ribbons and medals for his time of service in the US Marine Corps. The medals had been missing for years due to some unfortunate circumstances. The patient requested Hos- pice Social Worker, Emily Crocker-Underwood, to aid him in obtaining the rib- bons and medals. Emily worked diligently also enlisting the help of Congressman Patrick McHenry's offi ce. Her per- sistence paid off and recently Hospice Cleveland County presented Corporal Terry Wayne McKenzie his medals at a special pinning ceremony to show gratitude for his service. The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Myra McGinnis, Hospice Cleveland County CEO, and was followed by the playing of the National Anthem and the Ma- rine Corps Hymn. During McKenzie's' time in serve, he served in Vietnam and was awarded the Combat Action ribbon (Vietnam), Na- tional Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 bronze campaign stars, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color w/ palm and frame), Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Action Color w/ palm and frame), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifl e Marksman Badge. In addition to presenting the medals, Hospice "We Honor Veterans" Chaplain, Terry Floyd also presented Mr. McK- enzie with a We Honor Veterans Pin. Several elected of- fi cials, Hospice Staff, and family of Mr. McKenzie were in attendance. County Commissioner Susan Allen presented Mr. McKenzie with a special pin on behalf of the Cleveland County Commissioners. He also received a Vietnam 50th Commemoration Pin from Chaplain Bill Lowe, representa- tive with the Tan Son Nhut Association. Mr McKenzie was grateful for his recognition but accept- ed his honors on behalf of all fellow Veterans. He acknowl- edged that many Veterans live today without the recogni- tion and benefi ts they earned. He also credited Hospice Cleveland County for their attentive care and support. Hospice helps locate medals for Veteran patient Mr. McKenzie's Hospice Team – Janice Cooper, Samantha Yelton, Terry Floyd, Emily Crocker-Underwood, Mr. McKenzie, Anita Jones, and Sandra Alexander.
