Ties to Tau page 6 O n July 21 the new dorm on the University of Iowa's campus was named after one of our distinguished alumnae: Mary Louise Anneberg Petersen '48. This honor was bestowed upon her due to her continued service to higher education and steadfast support of the university. Mary Louise pledged Delta Gamma in fall 1947 and was initiated in spring 1948. During her collegiate years, she served as president of her class and president of the Association of University Women, as well as being elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Among her many positions and appointments, Mary Louise served on the Carnegie Corporation of New York Board of Trustees, was elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Governing Boards for Colleges and Universities, and was appointed to the Iowa Board of Regents in 1969, where she served as president from 1973 to 1981. Mary Louise and her husband, Rand, had many programs and causes they supported. They gave generously to various university programs, particularly the Pentacrest museums, the Walter and Margaret Anneberg Scholarship Fund in the Carver College of Medicine (named after Mary Louise's parents), and made possible the Mary Louise Petersen Chair in Higher Education in the College of Education. Of course, she gave generously to her beloved Delta Gamma as well. The naming ceremony for the Mary Louise Petersen Residence Hall was well attended. It is the first new dorm on the University of Iowa's campus in 42 years. The residence hall will hold up to 500 students and is 10 stories tall. Mary Louise Petersen Residence Hall Opens New Dorm Named After Tau Delta Gamma Alumna Mary Louise Anneberg Petersen '48 was honored on July 21 at the celebration of the opening of the Mary Louise Petersen Residence Hall. Tau Chapter Receives 2014 Patricia Peterson Danielson Award T he women of Tau Chapter have returned from summer break refreshed and ready for another spectacular semester at Iowa. Our Chapter had a busy spring filled with sisterhood, philanthropy events, Mom's Weekend activities, and Anchor Splash. Most importantly, at the Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards in April, Delta Gamma was honored to be the recipient of the Excellence in Risk Reduction and Management Award, and the Dean's Circle Award for the high quality annual report we submit to the Iowa FSL office each year. We were also ecstatic to learn we received the 2014 Patricia Peterson Danielson Award from Executive Offices. Chapter GPA Above Panhellenic Average For the spring semester, Delta Gamma achieved an average Chapter GPA of 3.169, putting our Chapter above both the all-sorority and undergraduate female average and ranking us sixth out of 23 sororities on campus. Anchor Splash Receives Campus-Wide Participation In April, Tau Chapter held our annual spring philanthropy, Anchor Splash. We raised $1,941 to support the Delta Gamma Foundation and Iowa KidSight, a local organization dedicated to helping children with visual impairments. Collegians Raise $37,000 for Dance Marathon In February, 50 Delta Gammas participated in Dance Marathon, making us the Greek Chapter with the highest number of participants. As a sorority, we raised $37,390 to support youth cancer victims and their families, placing us as the second-highest sorority in terms of fundraising. Members Prioritize Sisterhood and Campus Involvement Our members bonded at numerous sisterhoods throughout the semester. We went ice-skating, watched the Superbowl together, and even did manicures and facials for a spa night. We also enjoyed participating in other chapters' philanthropy events as the weather warmed up. We were ecstatic to win first place at Sigma Nu's annual philanthropic kickball tournament, Kickin' It for a Cure! With such a successful spring semester under our belt, Tau is looking forward to everything this fall has to offer. If you find yourself in Iowa City anytime in the upcoming months, please stop by the house. We'd love to see you and give you a tour of the new renovations!
