"Those who were DGs before us contributed to give us a wonderful home and now it is our opportunity to give our new sisters an even better home." Jo Ellen knows that in order to remain competitive in the University of Iowa Greek community, Tau Chapter needs to showcase a modern, updated Chapter House. She recalls how the house was new when she lived there and what a positive influence her experiences there had on her life. "I felt it was time to step up to support a sisterhood that has given so much to me." Being retired, she put a lot of thought into the decision to support a fundraising campaign. She knew that Tau Chapter was a worthy investment. Many alumnae from other Chapters, she noted, are asked to support capital campaigns every five to 10 years. "We have not been asked to contribute to a Tau capital campaign in the 38 years since I graduated. When my generation was in the house it was new, and now it is time for an update!" Jo Ellen personally uses the five-year pledge plan to maximize the impact of her gift. Since retiring from her career as a managing director of corporate investment banking, Jo Ellen has remained very busy. She serves on the board of two foundations and volunteers for her late father's WWII Army group. Among other things, she plans their reunions by arranging tours, hotels, speakers, and meals. "It really is a full-time volunteer job, but when those WWII veterans thank me with tears in their eyes after a good reunion, all the work is worth it!" She keeps in contact with many of her Delta Gamma sisters and remains a big Hawkeyes fan. Jo Ellen can be contacted at jeb40f@aol.com.
