I still remember the warm, friendly attitude of the sisters and the welcoming feeling I got there," shares Janice Larson Donahue '45. Some of her best memories are from her time at Tau Chapter; she made lifelong friends and had experiences that helped her become the person she is today, which is why she gave to the Anchored in Tradition, Securing Our Legacy campaign. "I knew it was time for me to support a group that had helped to shape my life." When Janice was asked to donate to the campaign, a flood of wonderful memories came to her. She recalled the road trip she and several sisters took to National Convention and how during Chapter meetings there weren't enough chairs and many sisters would have to sit on the floor, which motivated her to serve as recording secretary and enjoy a reserved chair. Janice also remembers that as a freshman, her sisters nominated her to represent Delta Gamma as a Homecoming queen candidate. While she did not win, it was still a day that she has remembered her entire life. "My brother, Dr. Erling Larson, then a member of Nu Sigma Nu, needed six dates for a day of Homecoming activities. The men were all Navy officers and freshmen medical students. My DG pledge sisters were thrilled to be asked. That was the day I met my husband, Dr. James Donahue, whom I shared 63 years of marriage with." Janice and James have two daughters, Susan O'Kane and Sharon Kobs, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Janice lives in a retirement home in Peoria, Arizona, where she serves on seven committees, served as welcome chairman, and is the chairman of the council. She is looking forward to her 90th birthday in January 2016.
