February 1, 2012 Local children win big at 4-H Small Stock Show Submitted by Joanne Winer The competition was fierce, but two lo- cal girls won most of the ribbons for the 4- H Club Small Stock Show that was held in Kingman a week ago. These girls are part of the 4-H group called Best N Better out of Parker. The girls have been involved with this group for several years and decided to stay with their familiar instructor Dawn even though a new 4-H group started in Quartzsite recently. Emily Carnevale, daughter of Paul and Tammy Carnevale, really did a wonderful job again this year, sweeping a lot of the ribbons for the show. She took a red ribbon for rabbit showmanship, 3 blue ribbons for tan, English spot and satin rabbit breeds, 3 pink ribbons for best variety for tan, English spot and satin rabbits, 3 purple ribbons for best of breed for tan, English spot and satin rabbits, a blue ribbon for rabbit quiz, a blue ribbon for cavy (guinea pig) quiz, and a blue ribbon for cavy showmanship. www.DesertMessenger.com Assisted Living update Nicole Kimberlin, daughter of Judge and Melanie Kimberlin, also won several rib- bons--a blue ribbon for Netherland dwarf rabbit, red ribbon for rabbit showmanship, blue for rabbit quiz, blue ribbon for cavy quiz, blue ribbon for cavy showmanship, and blue ribbon for satin rabbit. These two girls have worked very hard to achieve all these awards, and their friends and families are very proud of them. Con- gratulations to all the 4-Hers in Quartzsite for their achievements this year!!! I would like to announce that the Assisted Living Project is alive and well. Unfortunately, Arizona Depart- ment of Housing held up this project and ultimately did not fund it. MCD, the company working on the project, has presented their plans to USDA in Phoenix. This is an important project for the Town of Quartzsite and the La Paz County. MCD has discussed phasing of the project with the Town in an effort to get the project funded more easily. Their plans have been approved and USDA has agreed on the importance of the project for the community.
